  1. Went down to Pike Place and the Seattle waterfront today (entertaining a guest from out of town) and I saw quite a few Botafogo fans sightseeing. Hopefully that’s a good sign that there will be a solid away attendance tomorrow.
  2. Two state politicians in Minnesota, state senator John Hoffman and state house minority leader Melissa Hortman, along with their spouses, have been shot by an attacker disguised as a police officer. Hortman and her husband are both dead. The assassination is believed to be politically motivated. https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/14/us/minneapolis-targeted-shooting
  3. I expect Patrick Burgener will be able to earn his own spot relatively easily, in which case it wouldn't make things any harder for Augustinho (getting a 4th spot isn't any harder than getting the 1st spot in snowboarding and freestyle). The actual ranking is pretty confusing but the qualification itself is pretty straightforward - just goes straight down the ranking list, max 4 per country per event and max 26 athletes total per country (IIRC) for the discipline, neither of which are likely to matter for .
  4. Plenty of Americans have African ancestry and plenty of Americans are Muslims *shrugs* I find it quite racist to imply that she is less American than Whitey McWhiteface because of her ancestry and her religion.
  5. First time in a long, long, long, long, long time I am looking forward to a women's 800m free at a major competition. That will be a barn burner.
  6. Also, you do know that she's from "Jamaica" the neighborhood of New York City, not Jamaica the country, right?
  7. You do realize that you are kinda arguing in favour of zionism right?
  8. Seems like basically the same system as in 2022. That said, I think Montreal hosting two of the four competitions is news.
  9. Heartwarming: the two worst users on the forum are fighting.
  10. I expect it will be a big flop. There is virtually no interest for it in the US, and I doubt there is much interest elsewhere either. (I will actually go see one of the matches in Seattle, but more out of curiosity than anything else)
  11. Jeanee Crane-Mauzy will be one of the funniest curiosity of the games if she qualifies.
  12. There is just no way to make a fair format for a mixed gymnastics team event. I've already resigned myself to the fact it will be a compeltly BS event.
  13. Still a little annoyed got *both* repechage spots. Nothing against either team, but I feel like the re-allocation process was way too arbitrary. Especially on the women's side there was no reason to not make the three runner-ups play-off for the spot. The good news is that this will be some great experience before Nice.
  14. After how went he might wish he was with any other team except for Sauber or Alpine.
  15. Our men's short track team had an insane season last year, really no guarantee it will be anything similar in Milan. I do expect we will do better than in Beijing, though sadly that is a low bar.
  16. is kryptonite. They aren’t usually in one of the strongest teams, but over the past two decades they have been a team that can upset anyone on a good day. I don’t think they are a contender in Milan, but it wouldn’t be totally shocking for them to win a medal.
  17. That’s actually crazy. Ireland is investing more in ice hockey than in rugby 7s xD
  18. I am Canadian and I did in fact not find this fact fun.
  19. Evgeny Ustyugov has had all his results from January 2010 to the end of the 2013/14 season disqualified due to doping. A few Olympic medals are expected to change hand as a result: Vancouver 2010 Mass Start: Gold: Martin Fourcade Silver: Pavol Hurajt Bronze: Christoph Sumann Vancouver 2010 men's relay: Bronze: This also confirms the previous disquaification of the Russian relay team from the Sochi Olympics. https://www.biathlonworld.com/news/ustyugovs-olympic-results-disqualified/2p7jJvmw932nmrfuip2Cxl Amazing that Martin Fourcade can't stop winning Olympic gold medals even in retirement xD Crazy how long this case has been going on, but glad it has been resolved.
  20. I think it is fair to call this the most embarrassing performance in the history of Canadian hockey.
  21. What the actual fuck? O.o
  22. SGA is the NBA's 2025 MVP.
  23. A big question mark is... how good are flag football players at flag football, exactly? It isn't a very well developed sport at the elite level (it's extremely popular as a recreational sport). It is possible that NFL QBs, Safeties and Wide Receivers have skills that don't translate super well to flag while still being better than the existing crop of elite flag players.
