Ok Let's go sport by sport and summarize the games for USA
Archery - Another silver in the Team Event, and finally Brady Ellison with good performance and a Bronze, after the London Failure
Athletics - 32 Medals, 13 Golds. Surprising Performances from Galen Rupp, Matt Centrowitz, Clayton Murphy, Paul Chelimo, Ryan Crouser, Michelle Carter, 1-2 in Women's Long Jump, Men's Triple Jump, 1-2-3 in 100m Hurdles even without the WR holder Kendra Harrison, Even close for Few More golds with a barely miss by Sandi Morris, Chaunte Lowe and off course Allyson Felix.
Badminton - Performed as expected i guess
Basketball - as expected as well, 2 golds
Boxing - Gold for Clarissa Shields, Silver for Shakur Stevenson and Bronze for Nico Hernandez, and probably performance equal to expectations
Canoeing - Nowhere close in sprint, Finals in Slalom without real chance to medal, as expected
Cycling - Gold and Silver in BMX, gold for Kirstin Armstrong in time trial, Mara Abbott close to medal in the road race but ran out of steam close to the finish line, and on the track silver for sarah hammer and the girls of the team pursuit. Again pretty close to expectations, i didnt think hammer could beat trott in the omnium.
Diving - 2 Silvers and one bronze, David Boudia could've had a better last jump that would've given him a silver, and i hoped for few more medals from maybe Jessica Paratto or Kirstain Ipset
Equestrian - 1 silver and 2 bronze, not really sure if could've won more medals, didnt really follow the competition
Fencing - 2 Silvers and 2 Bronze - Definitely Massialas could've won gold, Homer was more of a surprise, also the teams that won bronze disappointed a little bit because i feel like they could've contended for gold
Football - Big Disappointment with the loss in the quarters and the loss of what should've been an easy gold
Golf - one medal for Matt Kucher
Gymnastics - Another disappointment from the USA Men in the Team Event, but Leyva with 2 silvers and Naddour with the Bronze. On the flip side amazing performance from USA women, Simone Biles and Ally Raisman in the AA, and the vault and floor for biles, however bad beam routine from biles brings her only the bronze and Maddison Kocian winning the silver on the bronze. Overall Not bad performance with 12 Medals and 4 Golds
Judo - Gold for Kayla Harrison, Silver for Travis Stevens pretty much to be expected. Need to develop the sport more because the potential is there but with Kayla going after Ronda to UFC it leaves a big void
Rowing - Gold for Women's Eigth's, and Silver for Women's single sculls
Rugby - Pretty Disappointing loss for the men against argentina that prevented going through to the second round, and the women did get to the quarters but couldn't beat New Zealand
Swimming - 16 Golds, 33 Total , Dominating performance with Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky, and Surprises by Ryan Murphy, Maya Di Rado, Lilly King, Simone Manuel
Sailing - one bronze in the Men's Finn, one more medal that i thought we would get here.
Shooting - Surprising Gold in the first day for Virginia Thrasher, but only bronze for Kim Rhode, and Corey Cogdell, and Vincent Hancock or Matt Emmons didnt even make it to the final
Table Tennis - As Expected
Taekwondo - one bronze, close to expectations
tennis - Serena and the williams sisters lost early, Madison Keys got to semis but couldn't win the bronze, Steve Johnson and Jack Sock did win bronze in Men's Doubles and in Mixed Doubles all american final brought gold and silver and in the end 3 medals, one of each color
Triathlon - Gold to Gwen Jorgensen, maybe expected but so much could've gone wrong
Weightlifting - Assumed there wont be any medal but Sarah Robles definitely surprised and won a bronze!
Volleyball - 3 bronze medals, and had a lot of potential for more, In the indoor side the women were top ranked and with brazil losing in the quarters i hoped for a gold, on the men side horrible start with losses to canada and italy, but great wins against brazil and france and then poland in the quarters gave hope, also leading 2-1 and 22-19 against italy gave hope, but loss and another bronze. On the beach side walsh/ross lost in the semis to agatha/barbara, dallhouser/lucena lost to the gold medalists in the quarters and gibb/paterson disappointed in the first round.
Water Polo - Women with another gold, but men couldn't even get out of the first round, but i honestly didnt think they would, didnt really show much in a while
Wrestling - Bad performance for Jordan Burroughs but 2 golds for Helen Maroulis and Kyle Snyder made up for it
After everything, 121 medals and 46 golds, amazing overall performance, let's see what tokyo will bring
