🇺🇾 Juan Izquierdo, 27, football player from Nacional. He had an arrythmia in the end of the match against Sao Paulo in Copa Libertadores, then cardiac arrest and brain damage before death. Shocking news, the saddest part is that he has two little kids and the younger one was born a couple days ago.

Let's be honest, most of the swimming distances are redundant  There isn't something that unique of doing 100 or 200 meters. But because the sport is as popular as it is and has a big branding of creating superstars, who can win "countless medals", it gets a pass on the program.

If we were looking objectively, compared with the other sports, the swimming schedule should be only:

    - 100 m for the 4 styles
    - 400 and 1500 m freestyle
    - 400 m individual medley
    - 4x100 freestyle and 4x100 medley relays
    - Mayyyyyybe a mixed relay

    1) 6/10

    2) Surprise: Jose Torres in BMX freestyle
    Heartbreak: Men's rugby 7s

    3) There was no official goal but all  members here expected around 3 medals so I guess the goal was reached.

    4) No sport will be invested more in the future. In fact, we'll be hoping for no more budget cuts...

    5) better not jinx people here so no names. We have very few individual sport young talents but there are couple that are looking good, mostly in Sailing, BMX racing, artistic gymnastics and swimming. Among team sports, the hockey and rugby teams should remain strong in theory given good recent results at youth level.

not in a celebration mood because of what happened in other sports, but this is Iran's first gold medal in this sport in 16 years and we have to thank some very special organization for this. the UK government !

few months ago for the last ranking tournament (GP final), the UK denied visa for the entire Iranian team. our 58kg guy Haji-Mousaei was VERY close to the quota but lost it because of that. the WT did nothing about it, just giving some promises about this won't happen again.

with max 2 quotas per country rule , if Iran had won that quota, we wouldn't be able to send anybody to the Asian qualifiers. our TKD federation had a tough decision to make about who to send to the AQT. they picked up +80kg (and not 58kg)

and, Arian Salimi, the +80kg guy won the gold tonight, ironically beating a British fighter in the final. (while the rest of the British team went home empty handed)

    pure justice, isn't it ?

Not that shocking, Zheng was the only one who won a set against Iga in RG 2022 before collapsing physically and she has the game to bother her. Swiatek didn't have it this week, too many nerves I guess. The bronze is hers, though. A Zheng-Vekic final would be cool.

If anyone would have said me that a guy from Košice suburb with whom I walked daily to my elementary school will be the best European skater at the Olympics and finish in 5th place, I would have probably called a shrink for that guy.

What an absolutely insane result from Tury here. Imagine we have only 2 skateparks in whole Košice (2nd biggest city of the country) and I guess not more than some ten in total in the whole country. Country with no background and absolutely no history in this sport. This result is all and entirely on Richard himself, he went for his dream. Missed Tokyo so closely in the very last race. but did not gave up, continued to work hard, learning from videos from the best and look what he achieved at his 31.

Huge respect man. I remember him as young kid already walking everywhere with his skateboard. but, I would have never guessed I will write such sentences some 20 years later
