  2. LOL, something finally dawned upon me. When I made the original schedule I made sure that there wasn't some big sport event on the day of the Grand Final, but I wasn't as careful with the postponement. I was like "Hm, May 7th? Whatever, there might be F1 Qualifying on that day, but that's about it." And, um... I was wrong, because the first weekend of Giro is on May 6-8. Which is fine, it's just the Giro, except hold on, Hungary is hosting the start of Giro this year. How did I forget about this? @heywoodu must be facepalming. Anyway, long story short, I accidentally organized TISC in a way that the Budapest time trial of the Giro will be the "half time show" of our Grand Final. It will be a three hours long break between the second and third voting sessions, which is kinda long, but, you know, we just had a week long break for Open 2021, compared to that this is nothing. And I am sure cycling fans on the site don't want to choose between watching a historic stage of Giro (first start ever in Hungary) and following this contest. Btw, you can already see the voting timetable in the first post. (Hopefully I won't have to change it because all 39 of you will submit your votes in time.)

  3. Just sent my votes and damn was it hard... I didn't have a clear winner and I'm not even sure I made the right choice for most of them

  4. Jeeeeez, it never gets any easier no matter how long I do this. Did a studio headphone listening and it messed up my ranking a lot, so it's going to be the final fifth listen that decides it all. I just kinda hate the feeling when I feel like I didn't give a song enough points when I had the chance, so I'm always trying to be very thorough Only top 4 survived all of the listenings. 8th place is now 5th 9th place is now 6th 5th place is now 7th 15th place is now 8th 7th place is now 9th 6th place is now 10th 10th place is now 11th 11th place is now 12th 19th place is now 13th and fighting for a single point Buuuut, I'm pretty sure that the next listen, which I'm probably doing on Thursday is going to be my final decision, since I'm away from Friday.

  5. There was also a cap in 2020, but it was 28 swimmers per gender.

  9. Athletics, men's High Jump... Javier Sotomayor...GOAT without any doubt...but a special mention must go to Dick Fosbury because of how he did completely change the discipline... Swimming, women's 200m Fly... Mary T. Meagher...as already explained in a previous poll, she was truly a great swimmer, but she was also heavily penalized by the 1980's US boycott and by the poor following that the other global events used to have at that time...she definitely deserves a lot more credit for her efforts... Cycling, women's Road Race...with all respect for Marianne Vos, Jeannie Longo-Ciprelli's career says it all...imho, that's a no brainer... Tennis, women's Doubles...the 2 best players in the history of the game, sisters, playing togheter...there's not even need to ask... Venus & Serena Williams is the only reasonable choice... Women's Football...when you say "women's Football", you just think of the USA...

  10. Athletics, men's 100m...I think almost every people is still shocked by Usain Bolt's results (that's why he's also my pick), but I also think Jesse Owens deserves more than a symbolic mention of honor for what he did under the circumstance he did it... Athletics, women's 100m...once again, Elaine Thompson-Hera's effort might be unmatched (she's obviously my pick), but Wilma Rudolph...guys, she was so classy...she truly deserves a mention of honor, too... Swimming, men's 100m Freestyle... Alexander Popov is my pick...I already explained why in the 50m Free poll... Swimming, women's 100m Freestyle... Dawn Frazier is maybe the most iconic swimmer of all times, she is the starting point that allowed all of today's girls to shine and make swimming a professional activity as it is right now... Cycling, men's Road Race...looking further beyond the Olympic race itself, I think it should be a 2-way battle between Jan Ullrich and Hennie Kuiper (with all respect for people like Baldini, Bettini, Richard and a few others), but I pick the Dutch on a personal bias...

  11. so, another World Cup stage is over... Germany truly dominated the (very, very poor) starting field in Rio with 7 gold medals... but the main outcome is that the new Olympic Qualification rules (and the current global situation) just killed the series, with basically all the events not having most of the best shooters at the start... however, next stop is in Lonato (ITA) in a few days time, when the shotgun specialists will be on stage for their third event of the season...

  15. Apparently the 2022/23 World Cup calendar will only be approved at the FIS Congress in May. The delay is over major changes to the calendar. With Maribor out it also appears that Ga-Pa will no longer hold the men's DH either. The Zermatt DH will happen one week after Soelden on the last weekend of October (men) and first weekend of November (women). FIS is about to admit failure on the unfair parallel courses crap (yay!) and have only two scheduled in the next season (one in Lech). Instead the previously estranged combined is set for a major comeback however in new format. There will be DH + Super G "speed combined" and GS + SL "technical combined" proposed next season.

  16. If you are going to slash racquetball and squash like that then you need to drop the team events. No individual qualifiers for squash is ridiculous.

    Pan American Games 2023

Some new tidbits: -Bowling cut to 48 quotas + 2 from Cali 2021 (down from 56 in Toronto and 64 in Lima/Guadalajara) -Fencing stays the same + Cali qualifiers, qualifier is at the Pan Am Championships this year in Asuncion -Water skiing stays the same in terms of quotas (48) -Judo has the same quotas, but this time a team event will also be contested + Cali qualifiers. 5 events (4 in the last two editions) will be used to rank athletes, with the top 9 qualifying per weight category, + 1 for host. -Wrestling has same quotas + 6 wild cards, half qualify from 2022 Pan ams and the rest at 2023. -Racquetball's quota cut from 60 to 48, looks like max 2 athletes per gender per NOC (cut from 4) -Rugby: No automatic qualification for Argentina, Canada and the USA. North American qualifier will be in November 2022. -Squash: Quotas cut to 48. No surprise here, the sports added in December of 2020 had their quotas slashed, 8 teams per gender qualify to compete in all 7 events, no individual qualification. It would be funny if 5+ countries were unique in the men's and women's, because then no mixed doubles can be held. -Archery is complicated
