Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik has failed to qualify in trials, Defending Asian Champion who won all her matches by fall Divya Kakran has lost, former WC medallist Pooja Dhanda has lost, 3 time National Champion Kiran has lost . So we have a very very  new and young team in women's wrestling.

The following wrestlers have been selected: Seema (50 Kg), Anshu Malik (57 Kg), Sonam Malik (62 Kg), Nisha (68 Kg), Pooja (76 Kg)

Entries for the African/Oceania qualifier in Tunisia

https://uww.org/article/african-and-oceania-olympic-qualifier-entries

a bit surprised to see Australian wrestlers in the list considering how strict they are regarding the quarantine rules. (and wrestling is not a big deal there)

Tunisia entered 2-3 wrestlers per weight but if we consider just one of them we will have only 3-4 wrestlers in some weights, (specially in Greco and women) since late withdrawals or disqualification (for not making the weight) is always possible. we may end up with 2 wrestlers in a weight receiving free quotas.

interesting note: :NGR Blessing OBORUDUDU is in the entry list but that's against the news we heard long time ago about the Swedish girl Jenny Fransson being disqualified from the Worlds (therefore giving her quota to Nigeria) :mumble: maybe the process of disqualifying Fransson is not over yet but what if Oborududu qualifies here too ? who will get the reallocated quota? the next best wrestler from the 2019 Worlds ? (which is :POL) or next best girl from Africa? :mumble:

or maybe Fransson somehow survived the doping story ?! UWW never mentioned her in their doping list. that was only Swedish sources talking about her doping.

I think that World Championships have higher priority, so, if Blessing will qualify also from African/Ocenian qualifier I believe that next best African girl will qualify, but I would be glad to be wrong and see our girl as qualified to Olympics in different way :p

that's not really impossible. maybe they don't even know lol but in that case UWW won't let her wrestle. that's against the rules. you can't participate in weights you are already qualified. we will see if she really wrestles in Tunisia or not.

but I think Fransson is probably fighting the disqualification. the case is probably just not over yet. as long as she is not "officially" disqualified, the Nigerian girl is not 100% guaranteed a quota and she has to participate in Africa to make sure. (even though it's taking too long, we heard about Fransson something like 15 months ago)

I only see 5 wrestlers in the list for her weight, so it will be a round robin competition meaning they can always come back to the results and pick up the 3rd girl to qualify instead of her.

Looks she is still qualified. At least according to UWW.

According to this (from 2 months ago) it says her career is over (mind you, I used Google translate) https://sverigesradio.se/artikel/7640233

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
