Sprint Canoeing Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

Per local news, Agustin Vernice :ARG (9° in K1 1000) said at his home town that he has qualified to the olympics thanks to a quota reallocation and it was told to him by IFC.

I don't think so... Men's kayak only had one reallocation quota and it went to Belarus. Only way for him to get the quota would be if three nations ahead of him declined their quota which at this point is very unlikely to have occurred.

There's one way it can happen: if for some weird reason Spain's unused athlete quota is one of their K2 or K4 athlete quotas. I think in that case Vernice would get the quota. If Spain's unused quota is the one in K1 200 (as we all assume it is), Sweden will get the quota for their K1 200 6th place. It depends on which athlete quota Spain will give back to ICF.

I don't think the above is true. There's no way we can get six K1 200m boats. The only way for Sweden to qualify would be if Spain declines its quota.

Likewise, how does Russia get a quota in the K2 (outside of Spain outright denying the K2 boat)?

Oh, right, that's taking an assumption that Japanese host quota gets revoked. It's possible, but the document doesn't state it clearly.

Yeah.... that makes sense. I doubt that Vernice is wrong if ICF actually told him that he has the quota, so we were likely wrong about the host quota allocation.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
    • Always dreamed Gretzky will draw Slovakia was another moment I can already remove from my things to do before die list
    • Finland have been awful in almost all winter sports, well beside ice hockey and cross-country from time to time, for a lot of years. It's very good to see them building people to challenge for wins again. Their new coach has done wonders it seems.
    • 14th June in Philadelphia against Cote d´Ivoire   20th June inToronto against Curacao   and 25th June in Philadeplphia to kick out  home    Not easy, but not the most difficult group. Should be okay. Vamos
