More news about appointed officials for Tokyo

Cross-country course designer

:USA Derek di Grazia (announced in 2016)

question from someone who normally only watches world champs and Olympic competitions (and very few others, just occasionally)...

what should we expect from him?

Is he famous for good course designing or is he more on the controversial side of the job? :mumble:

He is one of those who usually rewards positive, confident riding, which is good. Adding strides can easily get you in trouble on his courses, even if it may be a natural instinct that going slower means safer... Also he gets praised for building horse-friendly courses, where inexperienced horses can build a lot of confidence during just one run (again, if ridden positively).

Most of all, he seems to be very unpredictable. His Kentucky course from last week was very different than the one from 2018, so really nobody can tell what he is cooking up for next year. :d He used a lot of terrain in Kentucky, but I wonder if there will be any terrain available at the Tokyo course, which is right by the sea (hopefully some hills will be artificially added if it's completely flat)...

Some quotes on his Kentucky course can be read here.

Jumping rankings are also out.

Jumping simulation

Group A - :GBR:IRL

Group B - :ESP:AUT

Group C - :ISR:POL

Group F - :EGY:SYR

Group G - :TPE:NZL

Additional - :FRA

:MKD and :SRI are climbing steadily! Actually, since two more Group G nations will get a team, I'd be shocked if Sri Lanka doesn't qualify.

Full rankings here.

Preliminary entries are out for Baborowko CCIO4*-L and Saumur CCIO3*-L. At this point we can only gather the participating nations, and not the actual athletes, but that is enough to guess which nations may contest the Olympic qualifiers.

Group C (Baborowko) - :BLR:CZE:POL:RUS

Groups F/G (Saumur) - :CHN:HKG:RSA:THA

Winner of Group C + Top 2 from Groups F/G will obtain quota places for team eventing.

@dcro any news about entry list for the eventing qualification event?

Still no detailed entries. All I can gather is that Bao Yingfeng (Teseo) and Bianba Ciren (Sultan de la Motte or Tropic d'Heauville) will be on the Chinese team.

Entries are out for the Groups F/G qualification event.

:CHN China (4 riders will be chosen)

Bao Yingfeng (Teseo)

Bianba Ciren (Sultan de la Motte or Tropic d'Heauville)

Alex Hua Tian (Don Geniro or PSH Convivial)

Liang Ruiji (Agora de Bordenave or Crackerjack)

Sun Huadong (Lady Chin van't Moerven Z)

:HKG Hong Kong

Thomas Heffernan Ho (Jockey Club Charlene OLD or Tayberry)

Annie Ho (Lost in Translation or MJI Belle Bonita)

Patrick Lam (Jockey Club Weronique)

:THA Thailand

Arinadtha Chavatanont (Bolleybawn Prince)

Weerapat Pitakanonda (Chateau de Versailles M25)

Korntawat Samran (Luminous)

Supanut Wannakool (Tzar of Her Dreams)

Looks like South Africa will not be taking part. Therefore, two nations between :CHN:HKG:THA will qualify an eventing team. :p

Although, it's not quite that simple. For starters, at least 3 team members need to complete the event for the nation to be eligible. 1000+ team penalties will not get you anything.

    • Off-topic, when I lived in Beijing there was a park across the street that had all the 2022 pictograms along its fence on the street. They were big and lit up at night. It was really cool, especially because the 2022 pictograms were very unique and creative.
    • They're not very creative or unique to Italy/Milano, but like others have said, at least they're understandable unlike Paris. These are very generic, though.
    • National law and sport rules are completely different. Like, there's a law in Canada that if you punch someone in the face you will get charged with battery. But if you're playing hockey and do it, you'll only get 5 minutes in a penalty box. Japan only recognizes gender at birth and this was not an issue in 2020(1).    Any law Trump and the Republicans pass can only apply to governmental organizations, i.e. school competitions. Private sport events, like the NHL, MLB and the Olympics, can still decided who can and cannot participate in what events. If the NHL wants a female goaltender to play, they can do that tomorrow if they want. If the IOC decides Semenya can participate in the female category, then that's their right as a private entity. I'm sure Hitler wasn't happy that Jews, black people and other groups were allowed to participate in 1936, either.    Of course, I've been saying for a long time they should do away with "male" and "female" categories and just have "Over/Under X amount of testosterone" categories.
    • Yeah, if they have all their FTA* live streams on one page, announced in advance, life will be easier. Before you had to sub to about 7 or 8 YT channels to.know what was on every week.   But the results/events Page is also easier, because previously they used to mix up World Cup & say, Balkan Cup events together.
    • UWW's new rules for change of nationality   this doesn't look great for likes of Bahrain, Albania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Serbia and few more.    still it won't make a huge huge impact for the next Olympic cycle because each NOC still can use 2 mercenaries per style in each tournament but after 2028 it will be reduced to just 1.    some of those countries already have 3 or 4 (or more) Russian mercenaries per style. from now on they have to pick 2 of them for each tournament. I assumed the new rule applies to previous mercenaries too . https://cdn.uww.org/2024-11/change_of_nationality_regulation_eng_oct2024_final.pdf also you can't wrestle for another country without a passport. (UWW allowed that for some years) current non-national wrestlers can continue like that until the end of 2026 though.   it could be better but in general I'm OK with new rules. good job by UWW.
