Wrestling UWW European Championships 2021

Recommended Posts

Still many good wrestlers, but only two tickets. We have only 2 quotasm in men's category, one for freestyle, one Greco-roman. We will make some changes for last tournaments.

This kind of battle should be in higher stage than 1 round :)

no doubt about that. but it happens as long as there is no proper seeding. they have a very poor and non-efficient ranking system but they only use it for the Olympics (and OQTs) and the World Championship.

they really need to think of some kind of ranking system, something much better than the current one. which is a joke (still better than nothing though)

74kg level is great. lots of favorites. Chamizo just lost to Salkazanov. while Tsabolov had a disappointing debut for Serbia losing 10-7 to Kentchadze and most importantly he didn't look good.

Both :SVK wrestlers competing today made it to the semifinals ! This must be a historic first ever. however both will face :RUS in the semi so likely game over, but still pretty nice and valuable results here + Gulaev as finalist in the non-olympic -79kg, Best SVK European championship in history.

Tajmuraz had some drastic nightmare draw, here with Chamizo, Kentchadze and Zhamalov in his way. No one can say that the guy is a "lucky man"

However, our coaches has the chance to train and work with 3 really decent wrestlers, if they will really fail to qualify at least one to the Olympics this should be seriously classified like a fraud crime :spank:

Salkazanov had the day of his life. he beat Chamizo, Kentchadze and Zhamalov on his way to the final !!!! all 3 of them in last 15 seconds. :yikes:

and this guy isn't even qualified for the Olympics yet !!!

he was injured (right arm) during the European Qualifier tournament (injury happened apparently 3 days before the tournament during the final preparation minicamp) and as you remember at the world champs he was selected in the non-olympic weight...

2 unfortunate moments that may really end in a missed 4 year olympic cycle for this kid, which would be really a shame, because he deserve this quota more than let say a couple of others already qualified...hopefully he will be able to have some luck in Sofia.

    • Many things, probably they thought it is already over and the win will come itself... but also Nitra improved their play a lot, they outplayed us in physicality in the last 2 games, they won almost every duel. Was hard to watch. Anyway I am still persuated we will finish the job at home with success on Tuesday
    • If you look at their results this season and on the Super Series, it’s not really that surprising.    I’d consider them to be medal contenders.
    • At one point it seemed we were making good progress in this sport, but in the past 1-2 years things seem to have hit a standstill..   Ivaylo Ivanov is still our only elite judoka, but he is passing 30. There were/are some promising youngsters, but they haven't been able to make a jump to the senior level. At this Euro we barely had any first round wins (not including Ivanov). In fencing and taekwondo the results are much more visible for us.
    • yes, but that's only an (important) episode... I mean, what's up with your team more in general...it looks like they got the classic "fear to win", they're not as brilliant as they were in the early games of the series
    • after a few leagues ended well before the true climax, now we have both leagues from the good, old Czechoslovakia going to game #7    shame that both games will be at the exact same time
    • complete blackout resulting in a 5 minutes major 3 minutes to the end
