After 125 years (!), the mother of all speed skating events is back in Amsterdam 

 

Back in those days, it was done at the Museumplein, now it's the Olympic Stadium where they've covered the track with ice, known as 'The Coolest Track of the Netherlands'.

And it's promising to be not really good weather....we might see some old-school speed skating that I haven't seen at this level in more than 10 years  (Universiade last year in a snow storm in Medeo beat everything, but that's very, very far from this level  )

This has a great prospect of being one of the most scenic sports competitions of the year.

Alright, not all of them. No sweet Anni, no Gunda Niemann, no Ids Postma (who would of course be there if sweet Anni was there, since they're married), no Shani Davis. Oh well, still a lot of medals right there
