And which one is, in your opinion? We will be in Rio next month 🥳

Ipanema for sure, Barra beach is also very nice, Arpoador, Praia Vermelha, Leblon...

many options just in south zone, if you can go out of the city you can find another better beaches too

Paralia is very popular but not really because of beauty, but more for convenience reasons. It is close to Thessaloniki and of course Katerini so a lot of Greeks go there, but mainly it is populated in the summer months with people from Balkan countries as it is an easy drive and they go for cheap holidays.

In my opinion Paralia is kind of a "tourist trap." Some other towns of the Olympic Riviera are nicer in my opinion, like Platamonas and Neoi Poroi.

From what I remember, Paralia was a large resort: music, disco, a lot of people, etc. More for young people. I was there when I was 14 and again when I was 18, so it was okay for me. Personally, I really liked Katerini and in fact, I once think about staying in Katerini and only go to Paralia on the sea.

Btw., I once read that Greece also has winter conditions for alpine skiing in winter for amateurs, but that's more for a indywidual trip. Cross-country skiing competitions are also held in Greece in winter- Fis competition (non World Cup, of course).

And speaking of earlier times, I remember a crazy car trip to Turkey in 1995 and to Spain and Portugal, also by car, through France: the French Riviera (Cote d`Azur) and the Pyrenees (also in the second half of the 1990s). We went there in 1996 and 1997 for for all month: one week in Lloret de Mar, then Marbella and the following year Benidorm and the Costa del Sol + a one-day camping trip to Portugal, later return by Toledo, Madrid, San Sebastian etc. Incredible memories, also because the Schengen Area didn't exist yet and there were always funny adventures at the borders:) For me, car trips like that had a special atmosphere: you were driving through different countries, reading about them, getting to know them, meet some peoples, unlike now, where you get on a plane and go to somewhere far away. It's probably not for me—perhaps because I'm a bit afraid of flying.

Copacabana Beach is great for the vibes and the whole neighbourhood, but it's not even top5 best beaches in Rio... Brazil has way prettier beaches, either in the northeast (Natal, Jericoacoara, etc), south (Florianópolis) or even in the state of Rio (Arraial do Cabo, Búzios, etc).

I should have known that other Brazilians would have replied before.

Yeah, Ipanema is my favorite in the city. Barra if you are around... (it's where the Olympic Park is located... i never been tbh).

Tell us later how it went. I live in a city 4 hours from Rio, but sometimes I go there... maybe I will be in Rio early October.

Unfortunately we had to postpone this trip. Maybe next year, I hope.
