Snowboarding FIS Alpine World Championships 2021

Recommended Posts

once again, the qualification results proved to be the true decider...

the blue course, in fact, was a lot faster than the red one in the last 3/4 gates and basically helped almost all the riders coming down that side of the slope...

still, the great R-Fisch, "captain Fisch" (age 41 in a few months), almost managed to upset Loginov in the final run, losing only by 0.01 seconds...

fun fact...in the previous world champs, Loginov vs Fischnaller was the gold medal run in PSL (and Loginov won also in 2019)...

This parallel snowaboard is totally low-hanging fruit, Joerg & Dujmovits in the mid-30s, Riegler in her late 40s. It's hilarious that the much-maligned Russia is one nation that actually has found a new talent. Everyone else is set to die on the old name hill :p

Same for the men, two youngest prospects come from Russia, the rest is basically over 30 yo, Fischnaller and Prommegger probably won't retire before they hit 50 at this rate and why should they. There is zero competition in this sport.

Yes, the two German grandmas Ramona Hofmeister (born in 1996, first in World Cup) and Cheyenne Loch (born in 1994, 3rd in World Cup) are about to retire as well.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

I just made a point that nobody will retire anytime soon. Joerg has like 10 years on the tour left and Hofmeister & Loch probably 15.

Okay and the fact that nobody will retire anytime soon is bad because? Also impressive that you know about the future planning of all of those women.

It's not about retirement, it's about lack of competition. The fact Riegler, Pommegger, or Fischnaller are still active and in contention for medals at age 40+ tells me in ten years time Joerg and Hofmeister will be in the same bout. Hell, Dujmovits took two years off and she's back on the WC podum like she never retired to begin with.

The youth charge happens in other aspects of freestyle skiing, slopestyle, big air and all those events. Parallel slalom has to have the highest average age of competitors involved. This is like the geriatric home for seniors. And since those bad Russians are the only ones with some fresh talent this event will be willified by FIS and IOC for a little while yet.

    • so, the 2025 season is officially over, after the World Cup Finals have been completed with the Shotgun events, where (once again!!!) a new format for the final stage of each event has been experimented for the first time (before it becomes a regular feature in the next season)   the new format enlarge the starting field in each event's final stage to 8 shooters and dramatically shortens the number of target shots to decide the placings   the only characteristic remaining is the progressive eliminations principle   now, as written above, 8 shooters make the final, where after only 12 targets the eliminations start: by then, the last 2 shooters must leave the competition (7th and 8th ranked)   after 12 more targets (24 in total), 2 more shooters have to leave the final (5th and 6th ranked)   then, the crazy carousel starts: every 4 targets we have a new elimination  so, after 28 targets, the 4th ranked shooter is done; after 32 targets the bronze medallist is known and after only 36 targets (provided there's no need for a shoot-off), compared to the previous 60, the gold and silver medallists are crowned   I guess the tiktok people with the attention span of a chinchilla have won once again
