Moioli seemed very strong in last races (home effect ?) and Jacobellis is not to be underestimated ... but I will not lie, that would be my preference :p

well, I was a bit supertitious there...actually, I think Moioli and Jacobellis are by far the 2 best SBX specialists, but they also have a long history of "Olympic epic fails"...so, as I wrote, I really think that a French sweep is possible (the other 2 girls with some potential to stop them are Gulini and maybe Samkova, even if in this season she hasn't shown her best shape yet...the rest of the field is well behind those girls and I don't think they have a shot at the podium places)...

Wouldn't put it past Canada to sweep either the men's slopestyle or big air in snowboarding either...

nor the US to sweep the HP events in Snowboard (even if the Asian competitors may have different ideas)...

you know...those X-Games "owned by judges" events...:whistle::facepalm:

From 0 to 4 :d

I believe that Stoch and the team will win the medals, Nowakowska in biathlon also have chance if she will repeat her current results. I think that we have alos little chances for medal in speed skating, maybe womens team, maybe Waś on 500m, but it will be hard.

Germany winning 6 medals only in singles (in luge) isn't even impossible (though not highly likely, especially 3 in the men's is not the most expected outcome), I'd say a realistic maximum for Germany in terms of medals there is 9 (if everything works out perfect, but not entirely impossible). If I was a German luge fan, I'd be disappointed with anything less than 6 medals.

I have the same expectations:

Good:

Gold+silver in doubles

Gold in the team

Gold+silver/bronze in womens singles

Gold in mens singles

4 golds, 6 medals in total

Great, not completely unrealistic:

Sweep in doubles

Gold in the team

Sweep in womens singles

Gold in mens singles

4 golds, 8 medals in total

I can't answer your questions about bob, luge and skeleton, because I'm not sure what you mean. Too low? Too high?

I do not expect a second medal in Snowboard. I would be very happy, if we win one. But the second possibility is Boardercross, men.

Alpine Skiing: If Neureuther and Luitz weren't injured, my guess would have been 0 - 5 medals. As it is, I see chances with Rebensburg (two disciplines), men's speed and in the team event. I know that nothing of this is even a very high chance, except maybe Vicky in Giant Slalom, but note that I also mentioned 0 medals as a possibility.

I definitely think that we have a chance for a medal in women's team event's in Cross Country.

Too low of course ...

Interesting that you didnt mention the team event in alpine skiing.

I did mention the team event in Alpine Skiing.

As for Luge: If everything works perfectly, we might get 7 medals. But IMO everything more than 7 is highly unrealistic.

And since I do not believe in a medal in men's Skeleton, my hopes are that both Lölling and Herrmann will win a medal in the women's competition. But I concede that a men's medal is possible.

As for Bobsleigh: I have to admit that I have still my doubts how they will do on tracks outside of Europe, that's why I made a low guess. But I'll say this: I consider a German sweep in men's bobsleigh much more likely than in men's luge.

Which makes me think of another question: which events do you think are the most likely to see a one-country podium? To be clear, mentioning an event doesn't mean you actually expect this to happen, just that in your opinion it's a bigger possibility than other events (for example I don't think men's 5000m will be swept by the Netherlands, but it's still 100% more likely than the women's 500m :p ).

Women's luge - Germany

Men's ski jumping (normal and large hill) - Germany/Norway

Nordic combined (both individual events) - Germany/Norway

Cross-country (several events) - Norway

This came to mind real quick :p

Alpine skiing:

Mens downhill/super-g: Norway

Biathlon:

Any individual even on the mens side: Norway

Bobsleigh:

Mens 2/4-man: Germany

Cross-country skiing:

Norway on either side in many events

Figure skating:

Womens individual: Russia

Freestyle skiing:

Mens halfpipe: USA

Luge:

Womens singles/doubles: Germany

Nordic combined:

Germany/Norway

Short track:

South Korea

Skeleton:

Women: Germany

Ski jumping:

Germany/Norway, maybe even Poland

Speed skating:

Netherlands

Snowboarding:

Halfpipe/big air/slopestyle: USA, Japan, Canada, Norway

Luge:

doubles: Germany

Each federation can send a maximum of two luge doubles to PyeongChang. Geueke/Gamm are only replacement, if one of the other two doubles cannot participate.

    • Not counting Colturi the last time an Italian women skier stood on the podium of the World Cup in a special slalom was in 2011:     -Manuela Moelgg: 4.01.2011..       The last Italian victory was:     -Chiara Costazza: 29.12.2007...         In my opinion the best slalom skier on the Italian team is still Federica Brignone, who doesn`t trains in this discipline anymore. If she did, she would probably easily beat skiers like Peterlini, Rossetti or Della Mea. I don't understand why we have such problems in this competition? Bad training methods, bad coaches? I fear that Colturi would also be reduced to mediocrity by this hopeless Italian staff, who are unable to train an athlete for a dozen or so years to reach a single World Cup podium. Radical changes should have been implemented long ago, because the current state of affairs doesn`t guarantee any progress in the near future...
    • Was an announcement which competitions will be on 2026 Olympics games? On Olympics Games site there is an information that for the first time men and women will competite on the same distances.       10 + 10 km skiathlon (men and women) - clear     Sprint (men and women) - but what style?     Freestyle team sprint (men and women) - clear     Relay 4x7.5 km (men and women) - clear     10 km freestyle (men and women) - clear     50 km classical technique (men and women) - clear
    • I'll give you the curling comments based on your expertise. But, I will say that GB have only ever not qualified a curling team once, the mixed pair in 2018. They just have a way of upping their game when the olympics come around.    I hope I'm wrong but I have a funny feeling that Huw Nightingale won't qualify and as such neither will the Mixed Team. It feels a bit like the Mixed Team Skeet in Paris, where Ben Llewellin missed out on qualifying for the individual so the team couldn't compete, despite being World Champions 2 years prior.    Again, you definately know more about ice hockey than me but I feel like, apart from vs Norway, the Team wasn't outplayed in the final qualifier. Albeit intermittently, the team has been in the top division of the world championships for a few years now, so they do have the quality to compete for an Olympic Berth
    • Think you're you're being a little pessimistic here. In men's slalom the #3 GB skier is in the world top 40 and the 3 Carrick-Smith teenagers are jumping up the rankings too. I'd actually be slightly disappointed if we didn't have a full team of 4 slalom skiers plus 2 in the women's event. The speed events are going to be a big challenge though   EDIT - Sorry, #3 GB slalom skier is actually ranked #41 in the world

    • The big problem with Nines is that every attempt at a world competition has failed badly. A World Cup in 2019 was not repeated again and a World Club tournament was abandoned 20 years years ago due to a lack of interest. I'm not even sure the variant is played anywhere these days.
    • I believe, the IOC has admitted the cap will have to be relaxed for 2028.   I think they will go with what you proposed. 10,500 for core sports plus some for extra sports
    • Slovakia   Team Size Prediction for Winter Olympic Games 2026 Milano Cortina   Ski Sports   Alpine Skiing  (5) - As usual, 3 W & 2 M. Petra Vlhová will be accompanied by 2 other girls, I guess Rebeka Jančová should be one of them, no idea who will be the other one. For the men team, it is going to be again the Žampa bros clan with one last dance for Adam and once again joind by his younger brother Andreas. Cross Country Skiing  (4) - As always in the last couple of games, I expect a Coubertine-like participation in this sport with a perfect Bach-esque gender equality with 2 M and 2 W in order to start in both Team sprints semifinals. Do not ask me the names, I have absolutely no idea Ski Jumping  (2) - There a quite solid chance to finally return in this beautiful sport for Slovakia since the extinction of the dinosaurs. The young Kapustík siblings, Hektor and his sister Kira are the biggest chances for this history making, Among women it would be an absolute premiere, plus there a minor chance that Kira Kapustíková may be, if all planets align perfectly accompanied by another girl Tamara Mesíková. Nordic Combined  (0) - Maybe in Abu Dhabi 2042 or New Trumpopolis 2046 Freestyle Skiing  (1) - Michael Oravec in Freeski Big Air & Slopestyle is the only realistic chance, there some young girls trying ski cross, but still too long way to go here Snowboarding  (2) - Klaudia Medlová once returned from injuries should qualify for her last games in Big Air + Slopestyle. Among men in the same disciplines we may have an olympic debut with Samuel Jaroš. Biathlon  (6) - Hopefully with the returns of Paja Fialková (now Batovská) and Nastya Kuzmina we will win enough points to qualify a full female squad alongside the young Ema Kapustová and one of the Remeňová sisters to form a relay. Among men, the situation is more complicated, I hope at least 2 guys will make it (The biggest chances I see for the young talent Borguľa and maybe Sklenárik to join him) to have at least a mixed relay, a full men relay hope is utopic Ski Mountaineering  (2) - Funny enough, probably our biggest medal chance is this niche sport with Marianna Jagerčíková in W Sprint, alongside her male partner Jakub Šiarnik we should start also in the Mixed relay     Skating Sports   Speed Skating  (1) - There a fresh young czech import who can qualify us for the very first time in this sport, his name is Lukáš Steklý, but since I have zero clue about this sport I can not say how much it is also realistic though Short Track Speed Skating  (0) - Would be nice to have again a participation in this, we have a couple of talented young girls, but still far from the required level, so probably none again Figure Skating  (1) - The young Adam Hagara is our solid chance for participating, he will need a good dose of luck in the process though, and as knowing the good old mathematical laws about the equation between Slovakia and Luck it will end by Zero athletes     Sleigh Sports   Luge  (5) - 2 guys in Singles with the immortal Highlander Ninis, a pair in Doubles and at least one female should qualify, at least I hope so Skeleton  (0) - There one kid trying the stuff, but no chance unless he swithc nationality to Benin or Tuvalu for the free pass Bobsleigh  (1) - Viki Čerňanská I do believe shoud repeat her Olympic experience from Beijing in the monobobs once again     Team Sports   Curling  (0) - lol Ice Hockey  (25) - Embarassement and national mourning avoided, The National pride qualified again and continue the streak of never missing any winter olympic tournament since the independence. With very likely the most talented generation our hockey ever had, Cortina is a great journey we are looking forward.
