Not really...the quota won by Champia can be given to anybody by AAI. They had declared that if we fail to qualify a team, then fresh trial will be held to decide who goes...Clearly Atanu the favorite right now...

That's great :yes

What a bad day, hopefully Rajiv or Anas can bring some good news later.

Champia won the individual quota, so thinking might have been

1) no controversy if team won quota

2) Champia just had a bad day in qualifiers and would bounce back in team event

Or might be Champia performed better than Rahul in the morning practice sessions in front of the coach in the current wind conditions.

disastrous result. playing champia inspite of his form - what to say -this is how all Indian sports are run. So in archery we have actually taken a step backwards from London 2012.

So his pathetic performance, resulting in a loss to Brazil was ignored right, for today, what were the rules can an archer be replaced in the Qtr final stage after the 1st round, coz he tried his best to ensure we loose in the 1st round itself, anybody?

If you recall, someone had quoted team official and told about India's decision to replace Rahul with Mangal on Monday evening itself. Also, Mangal had participated in the normal team event as well. So, once again nothing to do with today's condition.

In qualification, gap between Mangal and Rahul was 5 shots and Mangal had shot much better in 2nd series compared to 1st. So, maybe team thought that Mangal will bounce back. Also, its not like Rahul had a spectacular performance in qualification or Individual events.

Are you suggesting that he was shooting badly on purpose? Match-fixing?

Comm'n that's a way of expressing. We all know his bad form was the reason for the loss against Brazil. Can a player not be replaced at the Qtr final stage, what if someone gets injured?

    • I will do my best to organise a pairs competition also involving nations from the 4 teams that are eliminated in the first half of the team competition along with the lowest ranked individual nations at the halfway point (end of session 2) to form 8 pairs. Pairs will be balanced so that the highest ranked nation in the competition will be paired with the lowest ranked nation, second highest with the second lowest and so on. All of that will be based on the individual ranking at the halfway point.   This way every nation will have at least interest in some event until the end of the 3rd session.   I will probably base it closely on @mrv86‘s proposed rules, and have sprints every 3 rounds of votes. The pairs with most medals from those 3 rounds get the points along with an extra bonus for medal and points doubles.   I do only have 1 day to organise this now so I can’t promise anything though.

    • The two-woman quota is based upon the "combined" ranking. The 6 best monobob + 6 best 2-woman results are taken into account at the moment (7 once this week's WC race has been raced).  Weiszewski competed in Europe Cup yesterday in the monobob, finishing 2nd, which gave her 110 points. This was her 7th monobob race, so this result replaced her worst (80 points), helping her leapfrog Cernanska by 8 points. At this point I guess she's in a better spot, as she's got the same room for improvement in the two-woman today, while Cernanska probably won't compete that well in the WC.
