Sport Climbing at the Summer Olympic Games 2020

To be honest, I had a problem with this sport, but TV realisation with a good commentator is enjoyable. For me in program we should have all 3 individuals events and additional combined.

But they do need to add combined graphics especially in the lead phase. Every single move can change the order and with that all being calculated automatically, it can be updated within 1-2 seconds of the hold being reached, but they're not showing anything at all. Now you have to keep track yourself or just stare at the live score on a different screen, which is just not useful.

:POL Aleksandra Miroslaw set the WR in speed climbing but predictably finished last in lead & bouldering and still finished 4th overall. This unfair format won't be missed for sure. Let's hope Miroslaw stays in form to contend in speed climbing alone in Paris.

As usual, the DJ tried to find appropriate records for each athlete. For :FRA, it was of course Ça plane pour moi, by Plastic Bertrand. Of :BEL:roflmao:

Garnbret :SLO is such a beast! She ate those boulder problems for breakfast and then enjoyed that lead route for dessert. I’m also super happy for Nonaka :JPN and Noguchi :JPN. It was nice to see the Japanese climbers find some success at their home Olympics.

The route setters did a great job setting intriguing boulders, but I think they could have ratcheted down the difficultly a notch. The green hold section of the lead route also proved to be quite a challenge. I think they could have made that top volume section (after the green holds) just a tad easier though, since it would have been nice to see someone top out during the final.

Speed is very unpredictable at the top. Plus, they aren’t the only nation working on new beta. I’d say they have a decent chance, but it’s nowhere near certain.

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.
