Skateboarding at the Summer Olympic Games 2020

Recommended Posts

Skateboarding can stay, but it does need to revamp its format as I mentioned before.

I'm more upset with how the IOC tricked World Skate into submitting skateboarding. They basically strongly hinted that if they took over as the international federation for skateboarding then they may also accept speed roller skating as well and then they went nope and only accepted skateboarding.

Of course, that's not skateboarding's fault...

I totally disagree. I'm glad karate will be gone after Tokyo, and I hope sports climbing is the next one to go.

There are also other sports, like wrestling and badminton, that I wouldn't be sad if they were the next ones to go, either.

You see, it's impossible to create a program that will make the whole world happy.

Baseball/softball have no point of existing (as an Olympic sport) in their present form and I'm glad they aren't on the program in Paris.

While I have no doubt that surfing will stay in both  LA and Brisbane the jury is still out for me whether they can do it in a TV watchable format. This night I will try to watch it again now it has commentary on ES.

Surfing is definitely "wait for the highlights" type of sport since for most of the time it's them waiting for a good wave.

So we should go with the majority. And the majority people on earth prefer karate over skateboarding

What's your source? Unless you've asked every single individual, I'm really skeptical. :p

And, no, this forum is not a reliable source for anything. We have a bunch of sports fanatics, some with very conservative and retrograde ideas, and most of whom deliberately promote a sports agenda that would benefit their own nation -- and, in this last topic, I include myself, since my opinion is not unbiased in any manner.

It looks like most people have the same first impression - it's a slopestyle without the snow. Which means it's not exactly new for anyone who follows Winter OG. I assume Brazilians don't actually watch winter Olympics all that much hence they don't realize the "own thing" isn't exactly the case.

The BBC uses the same commentator for both sports which seems to support your argument.

They couldn't bother hiring someone from the skateboard world? Here there was like 3 former skateboarders commenting

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.
