[OFF TOPIC] Politics Thread

You've got nothing but a handful of belongings, living on the street, then these violent idiots come in and burn even the little bit you have..

On the other hand, luckily there are also some good things, little as they may be. This one shows both sides - yes, including regular police officers - very much don't lack humanity. Can't find an English tweet at the moment.

There are in fact quite a lot of those moment. Videos of officers taking a knee with the protesters, holding up signs against police brutality or actively participating in marches.

I would guess that all countries have some police officers who joined the police to live out their action hero dreams and end up being way too aggressive in situations, but even the US have plenty of officers who care more about the society than trying to be tough guys. But sadly the ones getting the attention are the ones doing the wrong things (on both sides)

I feel like there’s some misunderstanding between me and lot of users on this issue. I would just like to say that I think there’s a big difference between U.S. and European (at least Western) police cultures. Police are systematically ruthless, quick to trigger, and feel like they’re above the law in this country.

Says who? CNN? Hollywood?

America has school shootings, serial killers, and probably few more similar things you can't really find anywhere else on the globe. Obviously they can't behave like the police in Sweden or Italy. But systematically ruthless? Not really, beyond mainstream media that is.

Again, can't be sure if it's real or not, but it is fun to think about some lunatic somewhere thinking "lemme just take a dump on this car, that'll teach them!" :p

it's time to divide this area , i've never seen usa like a country but a mixture of imported cultures

they created those satanic laws called veto , unesco , IMF bank , W.H.O ....etc protected by atomic bombs used to sniff the money of world

they show the good things only, made in Hollywood : castles, pools, luxurious cars ...etc while they can't even back their external debt

You're forgetting the videos of truck drivers (who happen to be white) having to drive away to save their lives because a whole mass of people is climbing their truck and most likely ready to pull them out and beat them to God knows where (hello Reginald Denny). It's being a whole big shitfest from both extremes.

So you’re in to Info Wars huh? According to a ProPublica (watchdog publication), who lives on a block near that homeless man (knows him by name), InfoWars and affiliates came in and set this whole scenario up. I’m not saying bad shit isn’t happening, we just live in an age where elaborate camera set ups, deep fakes, and misinformation are rampant. My general rule for determining what has happened, is that I need one primary source, and one reputable journalistic source backing it up.

The treatment of blacks by U.S. officers is often compared to the treatment of Palestinians by Israelis actually.

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
