Ouch!  Like I say at the University 90% of our PCs ran an identical build, so at least it could be done centrally, but still at least 90-180 minutes to reboot, rebuild & roll out the fix.

But still manually I think? Since the OS wouldn't start on the affected systems and updates/fixes that were pushed were not received, leaving the manual safe mode --> delete file route as the only option

Slightly annoying if you've got 50 systems. Quite a different situation when, as I've seen plenty of people post, you've got (tens of) thousands :d

Glad we don't use CrowdStrike, I like the data center, but wasn't looking forward to a trip there on this way too warm Friday.

If they are on they can be rebooted centrally.  If not on, reboot with with a USB to start the rebuild.

BUT - you still have to schedule.  Every September we had a crisis with all the student lab rebuilds, could only do so many at a time. 150 max I think.

The article (in Hebrew)

Could not find anything in English so the link is above 👆🏽, but our athletes from our delegations, getting ready to go to Paris received threats in their personal Emails, that “1972 will happen again in Paris, if they will decide to go to Paris and not forfeit “

Aha, seemingly it is even worse than that…..in any sane rational well-managed system the boot sector is password protected because otherwise your students are going to boot from USB & watch porn. bad things will happen. Guess how many people know their BIOS password?  That’s OK, as a well organised IT team we always store a record of all BIOS passwords in an Excel spreadsheet on the…….ah.  Never mind, if you don’t the solution is as simple as opening the PC (which should be padlocked and chained btw) & fiddling with a jumper switch on the motherboard.

No doubt that's what the Houthi's wanted though, they have almost literally been asking for it the past months...

But yeah, not good for anyone (civilian, at least) to have the whole thing escalate more and more and more.
