Apparently KK is leading by a sizable margin, but he won't be able to win in the first round. Still, if this is true, the first round looks much better for the opposition than what most sites are reporting. I don't really know what to believe, this is a clusterfuck of epic proportions.

But there most likely won't be enough to bring him (or Kemal) past 50%, which is needed for a first round victory. There's the other guy who got nearly 5%, and he is probably going to be crucial for 28 May, when the second round is held.

Erdogan is clearly winning this now. I am honestly not that sad about it considering how much the opposition spread misinformation about the election results last night. This is not the way to convince anyone that you are more democratic than Erdogan, regardless of how authoritarian he is.

 

Anyway, this should be the final wake up call for the West, same as what happened last year in Hungary despite some promising polling. Leaders like Erdogan and Orbán will NEVER be defeated in an election. They will either be defeated internally or more likely by their own body once they get old. Erdogan and Orbán are here to stay for God knows how many years (Orbán probably for more years as he's only 60 years old).

Both sides did though, the Erdogan-side usually starts of with a certain result which then in the end drops 15-20% when they're eventually forced to also count the stations where they didn't win.

 

Still, Erdogan winning would show having unfair elections works as it always does  I mean, it's of course easy when you control the state media and make sure your opponent gets literally about five times of airtime on the main TV channels during the entire campaign, and he gets dragged to court whenever he says something slightly unfavourable to you.

 

Not saying it's surprising, since we all know that of course that's what dictators do, it's the whole point after all. Anyhow, the big question now is what Sinan Ogan's supporters will do in the second round and where that roughly 5% goes.

 

It's also both sad and entirely unsurprising to see a large majority of Dutch Turks (70% or so) voting for Erdogan. Being born and living nice and safe and relatively rich in the West, and voting for a dictator in a country far away

Which is even still besides the point that voting for elections in a country where you're not born, you have never lived and you probably never will live in - but where your grandparents happened to have been born - is....somewhat dubious, to say the least. But of course it's not known as 'The Long Arm of Erdogan' without reason.

Not to start anything here, but this is one of the reasons why I think Orbán turned out to be right on one thing: migration. I sure as shit don't want Erdogan supporters in my country en masse who might turn radical in the long run. Or any other right-wing/far-right loving minority. We got enough problems as it is, this is at least something we don't have deal with, it will be an issue for Western Europe, but not for us. 

 

The Turkish people living in Western Europe are the perfect example on how living in Western Europe won't magically turn you into a liberal, especially if you have a different ethnicity and religion.

Seems a bit odd that Muslims in Europe always vote for Islamists/Far Left in European elections, but vote for what you are calling "Islamists/Far Right" in their native country.  Bit of a contradiction there.

Probably because "far right" in Europe is almost always against the immigrants & Islam as a religion

 

Meanwhile in a Muslim country the left/right wings still operate within the Islam itself - even if Turkey is a laicist country in that regard.
