Makes you wonder, was it one of those situations where athletes have to train on a road where trucks are racing past them by centimeters? The places where athletes in Kenya train are absolute hellholes in terms of safety...

Edit: he was in a car, with several others.

Dutch former figure skater Joan Haanappel has died in Belgium, where she had lived for years, aged 83. Competed in the Olympics in 1956 and 1960 with a 13th and 5th place, and won three bronze European medals. Together with Olympic champion Sjoukje Dijkstra she is seen as the best the Netherlands has ever had to offer in the sport.

She had also been a commentator for decades since 1975, mostly for NOS and Eurosport, and even hosted a major German sports show in the 80's.

:GRE Alexandros Nikolaidis (taekwondo) passed away at the age of 42 due to cancer. He won silver medals at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, and was Greece's flag bearer for the opening ceremony at London 2012.

And now his ex-wife (they divorced before they died), :ROU/:GRE volleyball player Ruxandra Dumitrescu has passed away at age 46 from cardiac arrest. She was originally from Romania but got Greek citizenship after many years playing in our women's league (17 in total but she got citizenship after 7 years), played for the Greek women's national team at Athens 2004 as well.

They had a son together also, he is probably not even a teenager yet, so sad for him to grow up without parents...

BLR police apparently stated the cause of death being suicide. He jumped out of the balcony

Konstantin Koltsov 2 times Olympian (2002 Semifinalist & 2010)

    • this is not funny at all, pal
    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
