First Triathlon World Series races of the year from Yokohama this weekend.  It’s live on the BBC if you can get that, otherwise on Pay TV streaming.

A bronze for :NED Kingma in Yokohama, her first World Triathlon Series podium finish! Two Americans finished before her.

I'm not sure how strong the field in this race was though.

Varga DNF the cycling part, that is very likely the end of his dream for 3rd Olympics in a row..

One of the best (if not the best) swimmer in the Triathlon circuit. would be really sad to not having him at the Olympics

Not 100%, but lots of good names.

She deserved it: put in a huge effort on the bike, got away with Taylor Knibb :USA, and built up a two minute lead.  Lost space on the run, but job done.  Is that an Olympic Q for her?

Happy to hear that! She was already qualified, I think mostly thanks to a good result in the 2019 world championship.

From what I saw last year it was American and Brittish women that dominate the field. Are these events still internal qualifiers for them?

Dunno about the :USA, but for us Leeds will be the last chance qual.

I think it must be. Hamburg is cancelled as of now, but that is usually sprint races & a relay, so there are no more races until August.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
    • Yeah, they do get broadcast pretty regularly.  I remember even back in Bode Miller's day they would show the training.
