Kapiti college teacher, Kate Thompson has been selected to join the New Zealand Olympic Team in Paris — as their mascot "Goldie" the kiwi.

The entrants had to show why they were the perfect mascot by posting a video on social media.

The mascot of the New Zealand Olympic team — Goldie — is a brown kiwi with a long yellow beak, sporting a black headband along with a black New Zealand Olympics.

There has been sabotage on the major TGV lines in France (North, South-West and East lines) the South-East line is spared because the terrorists failed. Travelers cannot travel to Paris for the Olympic Games. 800,000 people stranded

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
