:SLO Cene Prevc (ski jumping) announced his retirement at the age of 26. That is quite a surprise.

Guess the family needs someone to be the driver.

the news is about a month old, but since the Track Cycling Worlds are starting today and nobody already reported it, :AUS Cameron Meyer will call it a career at the end of the year.

:GRE Nicholas Scarvelis (shot put)

He is only 29 years old and has the Greek NR of 21.05 from 2020. He competed for Greece at the 2016 Olympics. His most recent competition was the 2022 World Athletics Championships, so I did not expect him to stop until at least Paris 2024...

:GRE Konstantinos Filippidis (pole vault)

He is 35 years old and didn't compete at all in 2022 so it's not surprising. He competed at London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, finishing 6th in London and 7th in Rio. He has the Greek NR of 5.91m from 2015.

His biggest achievements were the gold medal at the 2014 World Indoor Championships and silver at the 2017 European Indoor Championships.

:ITA Maria Centracchio, Olympic Bronze medallist in Tokyo last year (Judo, W -63kg), has fibromyalgia, which means that her career is over earlier than expected.

Not exactly retirement, but former :CZE hurdler, now silver medalist from London 2012 and double world champion Zuzana Hejnová gave a birth to a boy named Matyáš. Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉

She could not prepare well for Tokyo Olympics, she withdrew despite having the limit and later got pregnant and announced retirement. Not expacted to come back to competing. Wish her all the best 💪💪💪

    • What are the odds WTA/ITF has Kostyuk vs Potapova AO R1 just to see if the hand shake happens?
    • Malinin  opted for the 4-Axel in his Short Program, but faltered, landing him in 3rd thus far (and only 0.05 away from 4th!).  Surely he has the tools to rise back up in the Free Program.  (Also, perhaps this will serve to show him that he is in fact beatable.)
    • I think they incorrectly translated Ukrainian word "nahorody" - it is not a full synonym of "medal". Its cocrrect translation is "award". Meanwhile russian tennis playes switched for Potapova ->  Rakhimova ->
    • Ukrainian diver Lyskun switches allegiance to Russia, loses all medals | Olympics News | Al Jazeera   'loses all medals'   I would assume Al Jazeera could have been a bit clearer and mention this would presumably only be national medals. I mean, it's not like the Ukrainian federation, or any single federation for that matter, has the power to strip her of her world and European championships medals I hope (not for her sake, but because that would be a super weird precedent)
    • That's what I'd plan as well (except for MelFest), but I also know I am hypocritical enough to still want to watch the show and have a fun evening
    • Confirmation about the broadcasting rights.   If I'm reading it right, for most of Europe it will now be exclusive to Discovery/Eurosport or whatever brand they use.     For outside Europe, it's on YouTube. For Planet VPN....well, let us know if you find out.   fil-taker-list-25-26-winterberg-1.pdf   Also, should have mentioned above that the Nations Cup races today are just over one leg, whereas there are two runs in each of the World Cup races.
    • Got our first competition of the season coming up in Solitude, Utah  this weekend.  Live on Discovery Plus etc, plus also YouTube and the Olympic Channel.  If you are new to the sport, the sprint races on Saturday will be the format you'll find easy to understand.     ISMF   ISMF Skimo - YouTube
    • Surely. Her first coach now works in russia (and grandma lives in russia according to Sereda). They were in contact and despite of full funding from  the girl decided to become the star of russian propaganda.  As I saw in X: "It took the Russians four years of war to find a relatively well-known sports personality to carry out such a propaganda operation."
