Athlete Current points 800m difference 800m PB
Thiam 5912   2:15,24
Vetter 5848 +4,3 2:17,71
Williams 5642 +18,7 2:15,31
Oosterwegel 5641 +18,7 2:12,68
Vidts 5592 +22,1 2:09,34
Kunz 5540 +25,3 2:14,90
Schäfer 5524 +26,3 2:14,10

Plus or minus 2-3 tenths here and there because the exact differences also depend on simply how fast the times are instead of the differences in seconds. Also keeping in mind Williams doesn't seem to be in great shape, Oosterwegel is excellent and especially Vidts has been improving left and right and seems to be in fantastic running shape. Definitely my main pick for bronze.

800m PBs mean absolutely nothing. Every athlete does what they need to win. Very seldom you see a major podium revision on the 800m.  It’s the javelin that’s decisive.

It's nonsense that they mean absolutely nothing. It means enough to say that Vetter is very unlikely to beat Thiam, whereas if Vidts was in Vetter's position, you could definitely expect a hard fight for gold. Barely anybody is suddenly going to break their PB by 5+ seconds.

Like I say, at this level very few medals change hands during the 800m. No-one ever does an ounce of effort to record a good 800m mark; the most they do is stay within 3 seconds or whatever of their opponent.

Dina Asher Smith has made a mistake running in the relay. It makes her look a coward for not trying the 200m.

Only among people who have no clue about athletics and sports in general. I'd say she can safely ignore those people..

Imgope it’s not solely because the GB Athletics team are desperate for medals.

    • Aaaand the aforementioned  Gaia Brunello has put down a 36th place in Arber today, 2:35 minutes behind the winner, resulting in 116 IBU points. For World Cup qualification one needs an average of under 150 at the end of a trimester...or one result of under 125 in the current or previous trimester, so if I'm not mistaken, she has immediately qualified for next week's World Cup!   Great start. We are definitely hoping she stays in biathlon only and this start helps
    • This is the most incompatible with my sleeping schedule tennis event ever but I will still watch it.  I've seen a few qualifying games but time to step up my tennis watching with the main draw.
    • Discovery plus is my favourite way to stream sports aside from official streams on YouTube so I'm more than happy with this.
    • Chanatip Sonkham, who won bronze in taekwondo at the 2012 Olympics, will be competing for Thailand in the mixed doubles curling event.
    • Lots of viewing options happily.   Easy option if you have it - everything is on Discovery Plus   Free To Air option - They have lots of their own free streaming on FISU.TV.   Go to FISU.TV on your browser Create a username/password Once that is done, you can stream from your PC Or you can download the app on all services - Ipad, Android, Amazon, Roku Enjoy!
    • Draws are now out: https://ausopen.com/draws   As usual, some intriguing first round matchups.   ‪Osaka/Garcia and Gauff/Kenin are the main ones that stand out on the women’s side, while for the men it’s Hurkacz/Griekspoor, Dimitrov/Fognini and Monfils/Mpetshi Perricard, but there’s so many quality matchups that it’s tough to only pick a couple. I’m interested to see who Fonseca draws as a Q, that’ll be a matchup players want to avoid.
    • Big Air WC Klagenfurt | Klagenfurt, Austria   Men Gold-  Taiga Hasegawa (179.75) Silver-  Ian Matteoli (175.25) Bronze-  Oyvind Kirkhuis (172.00)   Women Gold-  Mia Brookes (184.25) Silver-  Mari Fukada (182.25) Bronze-  Momo Suzuki (166.75)   Full Results
    • Parallel Slalom WC Davos | Davos, Switzerland   Men Gold-  Arvid Auner  Silver-  Dario Caviezel Bronze-  Fabian Obmann   Women Gold-  Miki Tsubaki Silver-  Michelle Dekker Bronze-  Flurina Neva Baetschi   Tsubaki on a tear to start the season with 6, yes 6, podiums in her first 7 races (and she was 4th in the non-podium one)    Flurina Neva Baetschi also with her first career WC podium in front of her home crowd! What a time to do it!   Full Results
    • Big Air WC Klagenfurt | Klagenfurt, Austria   Women Gold-  Luca Harrington (182.60) Silver-  Timothe Sivignon (180.40) Bronze-  Matej Svancer (175.40)   Women Gold-  Liu Mengting (170.60) Gold-  Flora Tabanelli (170.20) Bronze-  Muriel Mohr (166.20)   Interesting to see how quickly Mohr and Tabanelli are progressing through to the senior ranks, they’ve now been on a couple of podiums so far this season.    Full Results   Side note: Sorry guys for the lack of updates, this has been a really busy time of my life and I didn’t have time to be updating stuff on Totallympics. Since there’s a lot for me to catch up on, I’ll probably do it all over the next couple of days.
