Andorran delegation

Interestingly they have Claudia Guri Moreno (WCh athlete in athletics) competing in 3x3 basketball. Also, Kevin Esteve Rigail (alpine skiing Olympian) competing in golf. :d

Actually Claudia's story is "interesting"

She's a basket player turned athlete actually.

She played with Spain in an U17 World Championships before because she has double nacionality, but because she played with Andorra in the 2011 Eurobasket C U16, she's only eligable to the Spanish rooster as the "nacionalizated" spot, Because of Spain also having Astou Ndour at the same age, she wasn't going to international competitions so she switched to Andorra again.

So she's a pretty decent level basketball player actually

The Italian delegation by sport can be found here: http://www.tarragona2018.coni.it/it/discipline.html

There are 27 Olympic medallists: Basile and Giuffrida (judo), Galiazzo (archery), J. Rossi and Pellielo (shooting), Paltrinieri (swimming), Longo Borghini (cycling), Pizzo (fencing), Chamizo (wrestling), Battisti and Venier (rowing) and a lot of water polo players, both men and women, who were at Rio 2016.

It looks like a very serious delegation.

There's also a detailed calendar (in Italian) by date and sport: http://www.tarragona2018.coni.it/it/programma-gare.html

(I have no idea where to find a detailed calendar on the official site of the Games)

Your rhythmic gymnasts are amazing. All three of them earned medals at the FIG World Cup series, which is something VERY hard to achieve for a gymnast who is not from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine or Bulgaria (and more recently Israel).

I agree and O think that we will try to win all gold medals... I don't know if we'll have finals to, they will be a boost for the medal table.

So we'll have two Rio gold medalists here (Perković, Glasnović), but mostly the selected team is a disappointment. :(

Also, we won't take part in equestrian. :( But we will in golf. :yikes:

    • Though I did just see that today's race isn't valid for FIS points.
    • Let's not act as if these things never happen before. Serbia's cross-country skiing drama a week before the Olympic qualifying for Beijing ended: FIS | Cross-Country Results - Zlatibor (SRB) 2021/2022   Drndic with a DNF, despite being - on paper at least - the best athlete. She didn't just 'not finish', she stepped out barely 50 meters before the finish, because if finishing, the points for her competitor would have been better due to the way points are calculated. Ended up with lots and lots of yelling and screaming and fighting and cursing, DNS the next day and in the end Serbia sent none of them.   This is not a shit move by Canada, this is a fault of the system at most.
    • Yes agreed, resetting it would help make it more dramatic as no one would be running away with it. We could also set it that there is a small reward for ranking higher after each round… maybe they start the next round with a “head start” so they bring a few points into the next round? But starting from scratch each round might be cleaner
    • I like the concept a lot. My only worry would be that the nations doing the best individually would also end up at the top here as teams are only made up of pairs. Whereas in a bigger team it gives the nations not doing so well individually to have another chance if they are lucky enough to be placed in a good team. Any way we can balance it?
    • I thought about accumulating, but for higher drama it may be reset like in cycling track elimination races
    • Those are the national junior championships, national championships are in Steinkjer, starting tomorrow: FIS | Steinkjer (NOR) - Event Details - Cross-Country
    • Nice for them, but also kind of too bad they pick the exact same two as last time. Would have been nice to see Regina Martinez for example (although I'm not sure that would have been logistically possible, depending on how they're going to do the flag bearer thing in the first place).
