Artistic Gymnastics 2016 Discussion Thread

As for the women's event, the minimum of 29 non-qualified (and non-African) nations with only individuals will qualify. If Germany qualifies a team then it will be 30.

There are 32 such nations so only 2 will likely miss out. It could be only 1 if tripartite doesn't get allocated.

We have a men's team at the Olympics after 88 years :d:d :clap:

Finland and Norway also qualified individuals after a long time. It's the renaissance of the countries that were good in the early 20th century. :d

when exactly is the women's competition and is there any live stream at all? I suspect the 2 Romanian channels who say they will show something are only giving us recordings. Thanks!

    • One has already been approved under the new rules.
    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
