I guess my mindset is often too negative. You are absolutely right though and believe me, I know the Austrians are really overachieving in this olympics so far and I am super happy about this result.

Now that you say it ...

The gold in men's luge was surprising, as well as the bronze in men's biathlon, the bronze in nordic combined and the two medals today (although of course Mayer winning a medal would have been no surprise). Negative results so far: Snowboard women's slopestyle, that's probably it? Medals in ski jumping or speed skating weren't really expected. Let's hope that Flock won't continue the trend ... :whistle:

Oh well, much less heartbreaking considering she's got Olympic slalom gold and giant slalom gold already. In terms of my heart being broken, Shiffrin missing out on a medal does not even come close to Mölgg for example, not by a long stretch :p

Super skiing day. It was very exciting, lots of changes during racing, and great to see surprising winners and other medalists.

 

Impressed with Austrian girls in second run, I think Schild even missed out on gold in that last secion.

      The Irish Luge Federation has gone to CAS    - The Irish Luge Federation (ILF) has filed an appeal against the International Luge Federation (FIL), challenging a FIL decision on 26 January 2026 concerning Luge athlete Ms Elsa Desmond (Ireland). The Appellant argues that the FIL unlawfully deprived the IFL of a qualifying place for the 2026 OWG by failing to allocate a remaining qualification place and unlawfully allocating qualification places to athletes granted Individual Neutral Athlete (AIN) status.   The ILF requests that CAS declare a failure to allocate them a qualifying place in violation of the FIL Qualification System.       Given all the gold medal chances  has across curling, freestyle, skeleton and snowboarding it is hard to imagine how they don’t smash through their record for most successful Winter Olympics.
