This just made the European qualifiers that much more interesting. However, assuming the top seeds win most of the qualifiers would have qualified to the Olympics regardless. It mostly guarantees borderline Asian players a spot and will likely only cost Europe a small handful of spots

Because of this Serbia will be without Olympics in this sport.

Taking a closer look I can see the two lower ranked athletes from Hong Kong will compete. Is Hong Kong just going to reject them once their top athletes qualify?

Interesting point, didn't notice that, yes probably.

They probably just wanted to have someone in competition for their crowd in last 3 days, otherwise it could be boring for Hong Kong TT fans.

Easy to make comments when Canada is literally guaranteed two table tennis quotas for every single Olympics (like host nation). :p

This is a joke really. When athletes/nations are not bothering to enter OQTs because they are guaranteed a qualification at the final chance rankings than that's a clear sign that qualification system is absolutely unfair and horrible. ITTF actually managed do an even bigger bullshit than replacing doubles with team competition at the Olympics (team competition is in my opinion complete waste of quotas).

Well, at least Lebanon qualified a woman today. That's like the only good thing that happened today. :d

You'll never know when the mighty Bermuda and US Virgin Islands will decide to participate :p

So after doing some number crunching, assuming Hong Kong gives up its quotas at the Asian Champs and all teams use only 1 additional quota to make their team(very likely) and there are no major upsets the current final athletes in the rankings are Serbia's Aleksandar Karakasevic (85th) and Hungary's Petra Lovas (99th). Of course the rankings will likely change between now and the deadline.
