Tired but not physically. Petra is physically perfectly prepared for this season,

I think it's mainly about the head.

I personally don't believe that anyone (especially from a "major sport" country) can even imagine the pressure she is facing.

That pressure is unbearable for one person. Today, being clearly THE sporting figure of the whole country is a double-edged sword, Slovakia has no one else in sports today (yeah there Sagan, but the guy and his mind is a chapter alone),

the whole country is turning its eyes to Petra. sport fans of the whole country follow basically almost every her step. The fact that she managed to basically push out even our hockey primadonnas to the second and third pages of our sports magazines is already an impressive success and achievement of enormous proportions in itself. Her popularity in Slovakia start to border with madness.

And she has to face it all alone by herself.

Unlike the Swiss team (and basically all other not only powerhouses teams), where there are a like million of competitors in rhe team, a million members of the service team, a million coaches for each discipline separately and full of skiers - friends - with whom Lara can talk and relieve whenever she wants ! Petra is completely alone, she only has her mini team led by a maniac like Magoni, but without a real person whom she can speak about normal things (thats why she has at least her brother in the team being as the last person with her at the starts) in addition, this mini team has to share on daily basis also works that Lara probably doesn't even know exists, equip accommodation, equip tests, solve skis, solve trainings, solve a travel plan, etc ...

and then go, finish 9th in a freaking world cup downhill you race for the first time on that slope in your life and still suddenly everyone will write it was bad, you lost and bla bla bla

I know what you're talking about, It's the same when Justyna Kowalczyk battled the Norwegian power house in cross-country skiing. Norway had a special lab bus worth 5 million Euro with gazillion skis, waxes & engineers while Kowalczyk only had coach Veretelny and two Estonian waxmen who covered both classic & freestyle skis. And she didn't have a private jet like Vlhova does now :p She had a Mercedes minivan to travel around Europe.

I really wonder how Weidle can be so great in downhill while being that bad in super G. Is it normal for athletes to be that good in one discipline, while being extremely weak in the other?

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Of course, several skiers have done much better in Downhill than Super G over the years. Siebenhofer and B.Johnson from the current ones, Merighetti, Rolland & Kamer from the recently retired and off the top of my head the likes of Kate Pace and Hilary Lindh dating back to the 90s.

    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
