Dominik Hrbatý is the new Davis Cup captain of Slovakia :) Great news, he was always a unforgettable player who never missed a single opportunity to represent his country and was a unique true fighter on courts. https://sport.aktuality.sk/c/307156/mecir-uz-ma-nastupcu-slovaci-maju-noveho-daviscupoveho-kapitana/

Since today, He became the successor of Miloslav Mečíř, the first Tennis mens singles Olympic champion from Soul 1988, who was the captain of our NT since the independence for all last 24 years !!!! His biggest success as captain of SVK was the 2005 Davis Cup World Group Final, when he led the team around Dominik Hrbatý and Karol Kučera to the first and only DC final we played (we lost to Croatia 2-3 - Dominik Hrbatý won both his singles in this final against Ivan Ljubicic and Mario Ancic) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_Davis_Cup_World_Group

Good luck Domino in your new role :cheer:

This week is played Australian Open 2018 Asia-Pacific Wild-Card Play-Off. Today were played semifinals with great outcomes. Abigail Tere-Apisah got a WC for this event and made the final! All of her opponents were higher ranked than her if I am not mistaken. If she wins in the final, she'll be first ever player from :PNG in GS main draw! What a history to be made! Her opponent in the final will be 16-year-old Wang Xinyu from China, very, very, very talented girl, one of the best from generation 2001! If she wins she might even be the youngest player in MD at the upcoming AO. Wang beat Misaki Doi 1-6 6-4 6-3 (not long ago she had a match point at AO 2016 R128 against eventual champion Kerber!!!)

I hope Tere-Apisah wins, Wang will have plenty opportunities in the future.

From 1st January 2018 Aljaz Bedene will back play for :SLO again.

Really unfortunate situation with him having to miss out on the Davis Cup and the Olympics with Great Britain. It’s pretty clear that it’s the country he wanted to play for.
