Any chance the ski ballet makes a triumphant return? :d

I'd prefer this over any of the freeski events, to be honest...

Literally nobody does this competitively anymore. I don’t even think anyone still make the ski poles for it (acroski requires specialized poles).

Acroski is unfortunately extremely dead.

It’s one of those sports that when it missed out on Olympic full-medal status in 1994, it effectively ended the sport.

There was a US sports columnist in the early 1990s who is now on ESPN who derided the sport as “ski-dancing.”

Feels like this discipline suffered from bad timing more than anything else.

It would have stayed in the program for sure had it been introduced in 1998 or so...

Well, there is at least one guy who is fully ready for ski-ballet to make the comeback of the comebacks

This is so much better than all those seemingly similar jumps in the aerials (with half the field going for the same jump)

Or the big air, which gets a huge extra venue while adding nothing to the program.

To be fair, the FIS suggests hosts use their Ski Jump venue to host Big air.

Do we know where Big Air is being hosted in 2026 yet? I know Livigno is hosting the freestyle & snowboard events, but is the big air happening there too? Or are they going to build an artificial ramp in Milan - I know they've had a few World Cup competitions in the EXPO 2015 park?

Looks like it will be the Mottolino resort in Livigno, which is hosting all of park & pipe. The bid book mentioned all of freestyle skiing and snowboarding in Livigno.

You don't actually need a dedicated permanent venue like Beijing built in 2022 (...literally the only one that exists in the world). You can build a big air ramp, but you can also just use a slope and build a jump out of snow (which is what the X Games do).

    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto is happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps ( and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it is already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
    • On the Olympics I don't like to count golds to analyse the performance, I think the best data are the top8 and medals. In both fields I expect a big improvement (obviously not on the 'pure' number, but on the percentage of medal or top8 events)
