[OFF TOPIC] Happy Holidays and Birthdays Thread

Recommended Posts

Happy Christmas everyone! For all who celebrate, I hope you and your families have a very peaceful holiday :)

The 25th is our main day here. I have returned home from midnight service at the church where they played beautiful hymns and as always "O Holy Night" was the highlight and gave me goosebumps, beautiful hymn.

Tonight we put the presents under the tree and tomorrow morning begins by opening the presents. For dinner we have either soup or garlic mushroom for starters, turkey and ham for main with all the usual sides of roast potatoes, brussels sprouts, parnisps, carrots, stuffing, gravy. For dessert we have a selection of dishes to choose from, but I am particularly looking forward to my apple pie because I just love apple pie :d:d

This is how our table was prepared last year....

And most of all I am looking forward to acting like a big kid and playing with my nephew and the new toys Santa will bring him tonight :d

Our tree....

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
