No, Stage 2 is literally what it sounds like. For every event 2 competitions will be held and the best combined total or time over the two will determine the winner. Accept, in the 1500m, 2000m Steeplechase, and 3000m in which athletes will race those races once then run a cross country mass start and the winner of each distance will be determined by a combined time from thier real race and the cross country one.

I thought that crap only counted for the distance events.

The opening ceremony will be pathetic and isn't worth my time (I don't care about ceremonies anyway) and I don't want to talk about the closing ceremony not being held because organization ran out of budget...

Jesus Christ, you got to be kidding me...

Has anyone tried these awesome stickers for the YOG on giphy? They’re pretty fun (although this one’s a little big for my taste

Nevermind Can’t get them to work, but they’re cool.

Not kidding, there will be just some handover ceremony without cameras or something like that and that will be it.

That being said, evidence suggests that YOG Closing Ceremonies have never been a big deal

4 days to go...

There is almost no interest from the media in this games however all olympic passes available (a little more than 600,000) have already been distributed. So, probably we will see games with little media impact but with full venues for every event.

The venues are mostly shitty because they aren't real stadiums, just training centres which they added temporary stands to (and the only real indoor stadium for 10K people in the area of olympic park will be used for... storage...).

The opening ceremony will be pathetic and isn't worth my time (I don't care about ceremonies anyway) and I don't want to talk about the closing ceremony not being held because organization ran out of budget...

I just hope the park will be good when I go there and that the queues for the popular events aren't too insane, my expectations are low.

No Closing? :nopompom:

Might as well just give it to Indonesia.. We can do dances from all 34 provinces or 2-hour angklung concert

Or... just get a marching band (the success recipe of SEA Games) and grab a DJ from nearest night club, then party till the sun comes up

What you have to understand about the ceremonies is that in the city we don't have a single big +50K stadium with the modern standards required by IOC. Obviously building one from scratch wasn't an option because of cost, but the original plan was to do updates to one of the existing ones. However, all football clubs who own the big stadiums didn't want to collaborate with this because they didn't want to move elsewhere for a year or so.

So, the organizers came up with this bullshit opening ceremony in the street (because they had no other option). But because of the utter chaos that the set up for it is causing in traffic these days, they can only do it once (for the opening) and the closing was just discarded.

    • Hope so (for my adopted country, Norway, that is). Torino 2006 was the first Winter Olympics I followed closely and it was nothing short of a disaster for Norway. Strangely enough, that was actually the reason I became an avid fan of Norwegian winter sports and have been ever since. As for my actual home country, Greece, a medal for Ginnis in slalom (alpine skiing) would be a miracle.
