First sporting event is set to get underway any second with the Women's 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 qualification, however unlike the Olympics Shooting will not be the first sport to award a gold medal, instead the first gold medal will be won on the track with the Men's 5000m T11. This will most likely be a showdown between Brazil and Chile, so a South American nation is highly likely to win the first paralympic gold medal ever to be won on South American soil!

Including 74-year old Elizabeth Kosmala, who debuted in 1972 (swimming bronze), won 9 shooting gold medals until 1988 and is now competing in her 12th straight Summer Paralympics :d

By the way - if anyone is interested in following the results then the IPC website is the best place for that, they have information about all the athletes and countries and it is much better than the official paralympic site!

If anyone can access Channel 4 website (the UK Paralympic TV broadcaster) their results service is as good as the IPC website as well.

A range of livestreams can be accessed on the IPC website, but they are geoblocked in some countries!

Nice public for the Swimming preliminaries.

Not a lot of people on Brazil vs Great Britain in Football 7-a-side but I suspect some people are arriving - Deodoro is very far and I think that's the only event there in Paralympics. Also the Rugby stadium is quite big for any Paralympic event, I hope to see more people in finals.
