With how results have shaken out, :CAN is guaranteed a playoff spot in women’s curling if they beat :ITA and :KOR (since now all teams that finish on three losses will be ranked fourth at worse).

From my quick math, Homan just has to beat Korea.

If Canada loses to Italy and Korea beats Sweden:

Canada 4-4

Korea 5-3

Canada beats Korea, they're both 5-4 with Canada having the tie-breaker since they just beat them.

Denmark could win their final 2 games and also be 5-4, but Canada also beat them.

Even if Canada beats Italy and Korea loses to Sweden, Canada still needs to beat Korea. Otherwise, they're still both 5-4 with Korea holding the tie-breaker. The only way Canada could still sneak in if they lose to Korea is if Denmark win their last two and also end up 5-4, then all three would have 1-1 records against each other and I'm not sure who holds the next tie-breaker.

So, in sum, win or lose against Italy, if Canada beats Korea they're in.

Edit: I forgot about USA and Switzerland, who could lose their last two games and enter that tie-breaker as well. Canada lost to both of them, so that's probably not good. But I don't really feel like going through all the iterations involving those two teams, too. Keep it simple: Just win against Korea and you're in.

Homan hands Sweden their first loss, 8-6 win, and moves to a 4-3 record!

So, this game was quite low stakes. A win here means we can lose to Italy and still qualify for the playoffs, if Great Britain loses a match. A win against Korea and win against Italy/Great Britain loss, and we're in.

If we beat Italy, lose to Korea (and Korea loses to Sweden), head-to-heads and DSC come into play at 5-4, which Canada would be in an okay position having a 1-2 record (it would be preferable if GB lose one, and China loses to Denmark for that) but a good DSC

It would come down to DSC, which Canada and Korea are close in and Denmark is nowhere

I don’t care that much right now, but the women’s team pursuit is gonna be in a deep rebuild next season xD

Who would it even be at this stage?

    • Yep, if they can take advantage of those cracks maybe, but it's too big of a maybe in my opinion. Our pitching has relied on Caissie, Toro, and Lopez the entire tournament, and I don't see that being enough to match the US's firepower.   Canadians are used to disappointment, there's almost always things that go wrong, and there actually being a chance to qualify for the...
    • That was realistic though, this isn't.   The women were heavy favourites, we did better than expected. The men were favourites with their roster of course, but they dominated that final just unfortunate to be going up against prime Hellebuyck who was a brick wall and of course there were a few questionable calls that were crucial in the end.
    • It's unlikely, but possible. USA pitching is not that great imo. Canada will probably have to score 6+ runs to have a chance, but it's definitely possible.
