  1. 1. Which of the Following Nations will win a Medal at the Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026

Included countries that won a medal in 2022 but aren't guaranteed to win a medal in 2026 or countries that didn't win a medal in 2022 but have a chance in 2026.

A bit shocking to see Brazil with the most votes so far! They do have 3 good medal chances though (Pinheiro Braathen, Rocha Silveira, Burgener) so it's well deserved.

I also originally included :NZL New Zealand on the poll but I must have deleted them by accident although they probably also would have gotten the same amount of votes as Brazil so it wouldn't have made much of a difference.

First, :ESP … Oriol Cardona Coll is the favourite in men’s ski mountaineering, with the mixed relay also a chance, and there’s fringe chances for Queralt Castellet in women’s snowboard halfpipe, Lucas Eguibar in men’s snowboard cross, and Ana Alonso in women’s ski mountaineering (she got into a car crash a few months ago, wasn’t serious (wrong choice of wording, I mean life threatening or had her missing the Olympics) thankfully but not in great form) depending on the day…

For :BUL Bulgaria one of Zamfirov or Krashniak in men’s parallel giant slalom is what I’m thinking, but maybe Yankov can medal too (although his season has been pedestrian), Zamfirova in women’s parallel slalom also has a decent chance

For :BEL Belgium, I think Kim Meylemans in women’s skeleton, the Crystal Globe winner, and potentially one of the Desmet siblings in short track…

For :GEO Georgia, obviously Metelkina/Berulava in pairs figure skating

For :LAT Latvia it’s all about luge. Bots/Plume and Upite/Kaluma in men’s/women’s doubles, Aparjods in men’s singles, and the team relay. Kruzbergs might also have a chance in short track but don’t see it.

For :POL Poland, in short track Maliszewska in the women’s 500m, and the women’s and mixed relays have chances, Krol-Walas in women’s parallel slalom, Zurek in the men’s 500m and 1000m. Easiest pick of them all.

For :UKR their biggest chance is mixed team aerials IMO due to the lack of teams competing, Kotovskyi in men’s aerials and Brykina in women's aerials are other chances.

I actually don’t have :BRA Brazil reaching the podium, Rocha Silveira hasn’t had the best results on the WC circuit, Burgener’s scores this season won’t be enough for a podium, and most of their hopes rest on Braathen IMO

Same with :EST Estonia, Kaldvee/Lill are a strong team but I have four teams slightly above them.

Actually I take that back, I think Brazil will too with Braathen.

Bart Swings too and a decent chance in men's ski-moutaineering.

I don't fancy Maliszewska at all given what we've seen this season and more recently at the EC.

:ALB & :BRA  in Alpine Skiing have big chances, distantly followed by  :CRO but do not sleep on them, I personally see Zrinka Ljutic as one of my dark horses in the always specific Olympic slalom, in a given day anything can happen

:LAT has its sliding sports, :BEL skeleton as mentioned, :BUL the alpine snowboard masta, :UKR Aerials, :ESP Ski Mo and :GEO with a slim Figure Skating chances

:POL not sure what exactly they are doing with us minnows in this poll though :p will certainly medal casually here and there

The rest will having fun and plenty of photos ... ah, yes and Slovakia with Slaf scoring the Medal game Overtime winner obviously. do not laugh and keep me dreaming a couple of days yet please

I don't think Spain will have any chances in the SkiMo honestly.

And since :wSVK: was forgotten, it's definitely Ski Mountaineering, followed by a miracle in Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, or Ice Hockey.

    • That's still ok. I think that principle can be applied to Oceania and Africa even for these games to avoid same nations like Australia and South Africa get all team sport quotas. But for rest I prefer the model that allows nations to participate in more team sports if they have the merit.
