2026 Week 5 (02 - 08-Feb) Events:

 

 

 

Badminton:

Azerbaijan International 2026 (02-08 Feb):

Harry Huang is the 6th seed and will face  Xiaodong Sheng in the first round on the Men's Singles. Christopher Grimley and Matthew Grimley are the top seeds in the Men's Doubles and have a bye to the round of 16. Samuel Jones and Oliver Butler were also due to compete but have been forced to withdraw.  but Alex Green with Zach Russ take on  pairing Yann Orteu and Minh Quang Pham with the winners to take on 2nd seeds  Dev Ayyappan and Dhiren Ayyappan in the round of 16. Harry Wakefield with Robin Harper are also in the draw and face  Bjarne Geiss and Jones Ralfy Jansen. Lizzie Tolman will pair up with Abbygael Harris in the Women's Doubles and as the 2nd seeds, have a bye to the round of 16. Theres no British representatives in the Mixed Doubles after the withdrawals of Callum Hemming and Estelle Van Leeuwen who were due to be the top seeds. Likewise, Sameul Jones and Lizzie Tolman have also withdrawn.

 

 

Cricket

International T20 (03-Feb) -  will face  in the 3rd and final T20 match having already wrapped up series win.

 

 

Cycling - Road:

Volta Comunitat Valenciana (04-08 Feb) - Tao Geoghegan Hart, Ben Turner, Lewis Askey, Hamish Armitt, Sam Brand and Adam Lewis are expected to compete.

 

Tour of Oman (07-11 Feb) - The start list is still a bit patchy so possibly some Brits I've missed but at the moment can only see Adam Yates down to compete for

 

UAE Tour Women (07-11 Feb) - Zoe Backstedt, April Tacey, Carys Lloyd, Pfeiffer Georgi, and Elynor Backstedt all appear on the start list but haven't been able to confirm all teams so possibly more when the results come through. 

 

 

Cycling - Track:

UEC European Track Cycling Championships 2026 (01-05 Feb) -  have announced a pretty strong squad for the first major track event of the season and the early results are already looking pretty good on what is evidently a very fast track.

 

Men's Sprint Squad: Harry Ledingham-Horn, Harry Radford, Matt Richardson, Joe Truman, Hamish Turnbull

Men's Endurance Squad: Matt Bostock, Henry Hobbs, Tim Shoreman, Mark Stewart, Will Tidball, Ben Wiggins, Ollie Wood

Women's Sprint Squad: Lauren Bell, Sophie Capewell, Emma Finucane, Rhianna Parris-Smith, Lowri Thomas

Women's Endurance Squad: Katie Archibald, Millie Couzens, Josie Knight, Anna Morris, Kate Richardson, Imogen Wolff

 

 

Equestrian - Jumping:

Longines FEI World Cup: Bordeaux (04-08 Feb) - Jodie Mcateer should be competing this week. 

 

 

Fencing:

4 more Fencing events in the calendar week for the Juniors.

 

FIE Foil Grand Prix (05-07 Feb) - 9  women will be competing in Turin including Katie Castillo-Bernaus, Becci Curwen, Megan Elliott, Georgia Gardner, Bronwen Granville, Georgia Silk, Holly Thompson, Amelie Tsang and Indigo Zaffino. 

 

On the men's side, we have 12 Brits competing - Harry Bird, Jaimie Cook, Joe Donaghue, Louis Guennou, Jake Hurst, William Lonsdale, Kamal Minott, Callum Penman, Rafael Rhys Pollitt, David Sosnov, Oliver Strange, and David Williams.

 

 

FIE Epee World Cup (Individual & Team) (05-07 Feb): Eight Brits will compete in Heidenheim  - Gregory Allen, Aurelien Degorce, Vladimir Kukharev and Louis Taiwo-Williams compete in the individual whilst Cador Beautyman, James Jeal, Paul James Sanchez-Lethem and Hugo Smith are due to compete in both the individual and team events. 

 

 

Field Hockey:

FIH Pro League (06-07 Feb) - Both the  men and women have two matches in the Pro League this week. The men will face  and  in Valencia whilst the women will face  and  in Yunfu.

 

 

Golf:

PGA Waste Management Phoenix Open (05-08 Feb) - Dan Brown, Matt Fitzpatrick, Harry Hall, John Parry, Marco Penge and Jordan Smith are all due to compete in Scottsdale Arizona.

2026 Paris Grand Slam European Open (31 Jan - 1 Feb):  The first of the big judo events takes place this week and some of the bigger names for  will be in action including a big hope for LA'28 - Irakli Goginashvili who last year become Britain's first male Junior European Champion in 25 years and followed that up with a Junior World Championship medal - the first junior world medal for a British male since 2011.

Every chance this will be another difficult weekend for both the men's and women's teams.

Squash:

Windy City Open (05-11 Feb): As always, plenty of Brits taking part in a draw that has thrown up a couple of all British ties.

 

Joel Makin is 5th seed and will face Declan James in the first round. The winner of that will face the winner of all  tie between Jonah Bryant and Curtis Malik. Marwan ElShorbagy is the 6th seed and faces  Yahya Elnawasany in round 1. Nathan Lake has drawn  Mohamed Abouelghar. Mohamed ElShorbagy is the 8th seed and will face  Auguste Dussourd. 

 

In the women's draw, Lucy Beecroft has drawn  Caroline Fouts. If she can progress, will likely face top seed  Hania El Hammamy in round 2. Grace Gear has drawn 4th seed  Olivia Weaver. Tesni Murphy will face  Marina Stefanoni with the winner of that match to play either Lucy Turmel or 2nd seed  Amina Orfi.

 

 

Table Tennis:

WTT Feeder Cappadocia (02-06 Feb) - Samuel Walker is drawn against a qualifier in round 1 of the Men's Singles whilst Tin Tin Ho will compete in the Women's Singles and will also take on a qualifier in the first round.

WTA500 Mudabala Abu Dhabi Open (01-07 Feb): Sonay Kartal has successfully navigated her way through 2 rounds of qualifying to make the main draw. In the first round she defeated  Cristina Bucsa 6-3 7-6 to set up a second-round match against top seed  Belinda Bencic.  

 

WTA250 Ostrava Open (01-07 Feb) - Katie Boulter has a chance to bank some points this month as she isn't defending anything for a while. She'll take on  Lucie Havlickova in the first round.

 

 

WTA250 Transylvania Open (01-07 Feb) - Fresh from sacking another coach, Emma Raducanu is the top seed in Cluj-Napoca. She easily dispatched  Greet Minnen 6-0 6-4 in the first round and will meet  Kaja Juvan in round 2.  

 

ATP250 Open Occitanie (02-08 Feb) - Jan Choinski will take on  qualifier Titouan Droguet in the first round. Billy Harris was the top seed in the qualifying draw but lost his first-round match 6-4 6-7 2-6 to  Clement Tabur. 

 

Davis Cup 2026 Qualifiers (05-06 Feb) -  have announced a full-strength squad to take on  in Oslo. Jack Draper will make his long-awaited return from injury in the tie. He's joined in the squad by Cameron Norrie Jacob Fearnley, Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash. For Norway, Casper Ruud is joined by Nicolai Budkov Kjaer, Viktor Durasovic, Andreja Petrovic and Lukas Hellum Lilleengen.

 men will be competing in Istanbul  and have announced a full-strength squad including Nadeem Dalvi, Alex Green, Callum Hemming, Harry Huang, Cholan Kayan, Ben Lane, Kalyan Manoj, Ethan Rose, Zach Russ and Sean Vendy. They will start the competition against  on 11-Feb before taking on  on 12-Feb and finishing up against  on 13-Feb. 

 

 

Cycling - Road:

Figueira Champions Classic (14-Feb) - Max Poole is the only Brit on the start list but I haven't seen a full entry list yet. 

 

Classic De Almeria (15 Feb) - Joshua Giddings, Lewis Askey and Oliver Stockwell expected to compete.

FEI Dressage World Cup: Neumunster (12-15 Feb) - Annabell Pidgley is the only Brit listed to complete.

Texas Open (12-16 Feb): Sam Todd is drawn to face  Gregoire Marche in the first round with the winner to take on 4th seed Marwan ElShorbagy. who, as 4th seed has a bye to the second round. Mohamed ElShorbagy is the 8th seed and also has a first-round bye. 

 

Nathan Lake will play  Eain Yow Ng whilst Nick Wall faces  Kareem El Torkey.

 

Grace Gear is drawn to face  Nadine Shahin with the winner to take on Georgina Kennedy who, as the 3rd seed has a bye to the 2nd round. Georgia Adderley is the 7th seed and also has a first-round bye. 

 

Lucy Beecroft will take on Torrie Malik in an all  round one whilst Lucy Turmel faces Diya Yadav. 

 

 

Table Tennis:

WTT Star Contender - Chennai (10-15 Feb) - Anna Hursey will compete in the women's singles.

 

 

Tennis:

WTA1000 Qatar TotalEnergies Open (09-15 Feb):  Emma Raducanu will meet  Camila Osorio for the 2nd time this year having already defeated her in Hobart. Sonay Kartal is having a solid Middle East Swing having already qualified and reaching the quarterfinals in Abu Dhabi.  She has again successfully navigated her way through 2 rounds of qualifying to make the main draw. She'll face  Magda Linette in the first round.

 

ATP500 Dallas Open 2026 (09-15 Feb) - Jack Pinnington Jones is attempting to qualify for the main draw. He's the 5th seed and has advanced to the final round of qualifying with a straightforward victory over  Daniel Dutra da Silva. He'll take on top seed  Patrick Kypson.

 

ATP500 ABN Amro Open 2026 (09-15 Feb) - Jack Draper was due to compete this week but has withdrawn. Cameron Norrie is the 6th seed and faces  Roberto Bautista Agut in the 1st round. Jan Choinski and Billy Harris were both trying to qualify for the main draw and were seeded - 7th and 8th respectively but both fell in the first round.

Badminton:

Azerbaijan International 2026 (02-08 Feb):

Harry Huang is the 6th seed and will face  Xiaodong Sheng in the first round on the Men's Singles.

It was an all  final in the men's doubles as  top seed Christopher Grimley and Matthew Grimley took on  Alex Green with Zach Russ.  The title went to the English pairing with a 21-19 21-7 win. Harry Wakefield with Robin Harper were also in the draw but lost their first-round match 21-16 21-18 to  Bjarne Geiss and Jones Ralfy Jansen. 

Lizzie Tolman paired up with Abbygael Harris in the Women's Doubles and as the 2nd seeds reached the semifinals before losing out to  Miku Sugiyama and Natsumi Takasaki 21-13 21-18. 

 

 

Cricket

International T20 (03-Feb) -  completed a 3-0 series whitewash over  achieving 128-9 in response to Sri Lanka's 116 all out.

 

 

Cycling - Road:

Volta Comunitat Valenciana (04-08 Feb) - Ben Turner finished 8th overall with Tao Geoghegan Hart in 19th. Lewis Askey also finished in the points in 34th. Adam Lewis was well down the field in 84th. Hamish Armitt and Sam Brand managed top-100 finishes in 92nd and 93rd.

 

Tour of Oman (07-11 Feb) - The start list is still a bit patchy so possibly some Brits I've missed but at the moment can only see Adam Yates down to compete for 

 

UAE Tour Women (05-08 Feb) - Pfeiffer Georgi was the top finishing Brit at 13th with Zoe Backstedt in 17th. Carys Lloyd was down in 83rd with Elynor Backstedt in 91st. April Tacey and Robyn Clay were towards the bavk of the field in 103rd and 109th respectively. 

 

 

Cycling - Track:

UEC European Track Cycling Championships 2026 (01-05 Feb) -  topped the medal table in Konya  with 13 medals in total including 7 Gold.  In the Olympic disciplines, GB score 5 golds, 4 silvers and 1 bronze.

 

Matt Richardson took gold in both the men's sprint and men's keirin - beating out  Harrie Lavreysen in both events. Richardson was also part of the men's team sprint who took silver behind .

 

Emma Finucane and Sophie Capewell took a 1-2 for  in the women's sprint. Like the men, the women's team sprint also took home the silver behind .

 

In the endurance events, there was a World Record for the women's team pursuit on their way to gold, but the men's team pursuit had to settle for bronze. Anna Morris took home a trio of medals as she was part of the women's team pursuit and would go on to take gold in the women's omnium before teaming up with Katie Archibald to take silver in the women's madison. 

 

Outside of the Olympic events, there was gold for Josie Knight in the women's individual pursuit with Millie Couzens taking the bronze. Joseph Truman took gold in the men's kilo time trial.  

 

 

Equestrian - Jumping:

Longines FEI World Cup: Bordeaux (04-08 Feb) - Jodie Mcateer finished 6th missing out on the jump off by 1 time penalty. 

 

 

Fencing:

4 more Fencing events in the calendar week for the Juniors.

 

FIE Foil Grand Prix (05-07 Feb) - 9  women competed in Turin. Amelie Tsang was the only Brit to make the top-100 with her 84th place finish. Georgia Silk was in 123rd. Indigo Zaffino and Megan Elliott were tied for 165th, just ahead of Holly Thompson in 169th. Georgia Gardner was in 189th. Bronwen Granville and Becci Curwen finished in 194th and 195th respectively. Finally, Katie Castillo-Bernaus was down in 201st out of 211th fencers. 

 

On the men's side, we had 12 Brits competing - Jamie Cook finished 28th with Harry Bird in 30th. David Sosnov continues to show decent for with a 44th place finish for the junior. Joe Donaghue took 79th, David Williams was in a tie for 84th ahead of Callum Penman in 89th. William Lonsdale was in a tie for 92nd. Louis Guennou couldn't quite make the top-100 finishing in 115th. Kamal Minott was well down the field in 173rd, Jake Hurst was 182nd, Rafael Rhys Pollitt was 187th and finally, Oliver Strange was down in 216th.

 

 

FIE Epee World Cup (Individual & Team) (05-07 Feb): Eight Brits competed in Heidenheim  - Louis Taiwo-Williams was the only Brit in the top 100 at 88th, well ahead of the next best James Jeal in 172nd. Cador Beautyman was in 193rd, Gregory Allen was 197th. Aurelien Degorce was down in 283rd with Paul James Sanchex-Lethem in 287th. Hugo Smith was in 333rd and Vladimir Kukharev was 358th.  

 

The men's team were well down the field in 27th place out of 40 nations competing. 

 

 

Field Hockey:

FIH Pro League (06-07 Feb) - The  men defeated  in penalty shoot out (2-2 3-1PSO) and followed that with a 3-1 win over  in Valencia. The  the women didn't do so well in Yunfu , losing to both  (3-0) and  (3-2).

 

 

Golf:

PGA Waste Management Phoenix Open (05-08 Feb) - Matt Fitzpatrick finished on -13 for 9th place overall. Jordan Smith's -10 was enough for 16th. John Parry was in 35th on -6 in Arizona. 

 

DPT Qatar Masters (05-08Feb) - Calum Hill was the runner-up in Doha with a score of -14. Daniel Bradbury was in 5th on -12. -9 was enough for Grant Forrest to finish in 15th place. Both Todd Clements and Matt Wallace were a further shot behind in 20th place. Nathan Kimsey was in 24th place on -7 along with Euan Ferguson. Matthew Jordan and Paul Waring were both on -6 in a tie for 32nd. Cameron Adam's -4 was in 36th along with Andy Sullivan. Sam Bairstow ended on level par in 56th. Finally, Marcus Armitage was down in 62nd.       

 

 

Judo:

2026 Paris Grand Slam European Open (31 Jan - 1 Feb):  The first of the big judo event so good to see decent GB squad attending and returning with some good results. 

Men's -66Kg: Charlie Young got to the round of 16 whilst Michael Fryer finished in 7th place

Men's -73Kg: Irakli Goginashvili got to the round of 16 whilst Benjamin Levy returns with a bronze medal - which I think is his first medal at this level of competition. 

Men's -81Kg: Lachlan Moorhead got to the round of 16.

Men's -100Kg: Oliver Barratt got to the round of 16.

Women's -52Kg: Tatum Keen lost her first round match. 

Women's -57Kg: Acelya Toprak got to the round of 16.

Women's -70Kg: Both Katie-Jemima Yeats Brown and Kelly Petersen Pollard got through to the round of 16

Women's -78Kg: Emma Reid lost her first round match.

 

 

Rugby SVNS:

Perth (07-08 Feb):

 

As expected, it was another difficult weekend for Team GB.

 

The 'highlight' of the weekend was the solitary British win for the men - 26-19 over . But even that is not enough to make up for defeats to  (36-10) and  (24-21) in the pool. They had a chance to compete for 5th place but for the event in a row, they came unstuck against  (28-19). They finished their completion with another loss to  (24-17) to finish 8th overall.

 

The women are still seeking their first win - defeats to  (54-5),  (45-7) and  (42-10) was followed by further defeats to  (29-7) and  (41-5) to take their usual place at the bottom of the table.   weekend on the spi    men have been drawn against   and  whilst the women will face   and 

 

 

Squash:

Windy City Open (05-11 Feb): As always, plenty of Brits taking part in a draw that has thrown up a couple of all British ties.

 

Joel Makin was 5th seed and defeated Declan James in the first round but then lost out to Jonah Bryant. Bryant would then lose out in the quarterfinals to the top seed Mostafa Asal 11-2 11-3 11-7.

Marwan ElShorbagy was the 6th seed and also fell in the quarterfinals, losing out to  Gregoire Marche. Nathan Lake has another casulaty in the first round, losing 11-7 11-8 12-14 13-11 to  Mohamed Abouelghar. Mohamed ElShorbagy is the 8th seed and advanced to the quarterfinals where he fell to 2nd seed  Paul Coll 11-8 4-11 11-5 7-11 11-1 

 

In the women's draw, Lucy Beecroft got through to the round of 16 with a win over  Caroline Fouts but she was no match for the top seed  Hania El Hammamy in round 2 losing out 11-9 11-7 11-2. Grace Gear was defeated by 4th seed  Olivia Weaver 11-6 11-9 11-3 in the first round.  Tesni Murphy will face  Marina Stefanoni defeated Tesni Murphy 5-11 11-3 11-6 11-9. 2nd seed  Amina Orfi easily dispatched Lucy Turmel 11-6 11-6 11-7 in the first round.

 

 

Table Tennis:

WTT Feeder Cappadocia (02-06 Feb) - Samuel Walker got through to the round of 16 but was defeated 10-12 11-6 12-14 11-8 9-11 to 14 year old  qualifier Gorkem Ocal. 

 

Tin Tin Ho also made it through to the round of 16 but was ultimately defeated by 7th seed  Elena Zaharia 8-11 11-5 10-12 11-3 5-11.

Tennis:

WTA500 Mudabala Abu Dhabi Open (01-07 Feb): Sonay Kartal successfully navigated her way through 2 rounds of qualifying to make the main draw and would ultimately make it through to the quarterfinals where she would lose to eventual champion  Sara Bejlek 6-0 6-2.  

 

WTA250 Ostrava Open (01-07 Feb) - Katie Boulter returns to the top 100 after taking her 4th career title in Ostrava with a 5-7 6-2 6-1 win over  Tamara Kopatsch.

 

 

WTA250 Transylvania Open (01-07 Feb) - Emma Raducanu reached her first final since she won US Open 2021 but was well beaten in the final by  Sorana Cirstea 6-0 6-2.   

 

ATP250 Open Occitanie (02-08 Feb) - Jan Choinski remains without a win this season as he loses 6-2 7-6 to  qualifier Titouan Droguet in the first round. Billy Harris was the top seed in the qualifying draw but lost his first-round match 6-4 6-7 2-6 to  Clement Tabur. 

 

Davis Cup 2026 Qualifiers (05-06 Feb) -  have qualified for the second round with a 4-0 win over a depleted  in Oslo. Jack Draper defeated Viktor Durasovic 6-2 6-2. Cameron Norrie then defeated Nicolai Budkov Kjaer 6-4 6-4 to take 2-0 lead going into the second day. With one of the world's top doubles pairings in Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, we would be forgiven for thinking it would be foregone conclusion Durasovic and Kjaer put in a great fight before the Brits prevaied 6-2 2-6 7-6 to seal the tie. Jabo Fearnley then played dead rubber against Kjaer and won 3-6 6-3 10-7.

 

On Sunday the Brits found out their next opponent would be  after they defeated  3-0. Worth saying that Ecuador are the lowest ranked team left in the competition.
