At least we won’t see like 10 medals change owner for doping in the next few years

I had the privilege of going to the Beijing 2022 Olympics because I happened to live there and no one else was allowed into the city due to zero Covid. Got to go to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for free (along with a hockey game).

Anyway, during the Closing Ceremonies a Russian was honored with winning gold in one of the last events. A guy I didn't know from two seats down (because we were spaced out) leaned over and asked me how long until that gold was taken away due to doping. We laughed.

I don't even know if it was eventually. I just know that Canada was robbed of a bronze in figure skating team event after Russian doping. It's just like clockwork, why even bother? I'm part Ukrainian, so yes the war, but Russian athletes with help from their government, can't seem to stop themselves. They even dope in curling. Enough already.

An update I made in June to the list of countries that could still qualify

Now qualified (as per the IF)

:VAN (Freestyle skiing)

:GBS (Alpine skiing)

:MAR (Alpine skiing)

Should qualify:

:MDA Should easily qualify in biathlon

:SMR - Should qualify in alpine skiing

These countries are just outside qualification position and need better results to qualify
:ECU - Alpine skiing

:JAM - Alpine skiing ( and could qualify in Bobsleigh as well)

:PER - Alpine skiing

:PUR - Skeleton

:ISV - Skeleton

:TUN - Women's monobob - with the field size at worlds really low, its possible one of their athletes sneaks in.

Unlikely to qualify but have athletes trying

:ALG - Alpine skiing

:BHU - Alpine skiing, name is now switched to under Bhutan.

:CPV - Alpine skiing

:GHA - Skeleton / alpine skiing

:INA - Figure skating

:JOR - Alpine skiing

:KUW - Alpine skiing

:NEP - Alpine skiing

:TGA - Alpine skiing

:TJK - Alpine skiing

:ASA unsure if their athlete from Beijing will attempt qualification again; they also now have a snowboarder in the women's halfpipe who isn't that far off.

Unknowns:

:PAK - their only athlete with potential to qualify came back and DNF's his only race at the AWG, no race before (from 2022) or since then. Should be able to qualify if he tries to

:VIE - Their monobob athlete from Beijing 2022 qualification cycle will try again.

:VEN - Have an alpine skier from Switzerland? trying to qualify but has 0 results so far

:TOG - lost their only athlete who has qualified; unsure if any others will try to qualify.

:KEN - lost the only athlete who has qualified; unsure if any others will try to qualify.

Unlikely to qualify in any sport:

:PRK - Figure skating Pairs failed to qualify

Countries which competed in Beijing but won't in Milan-Cortina

:TLS - athlete has retired.

Moving :PAK up into unlikely to qualify (likely will) as their athlete from the last two games will be competing in Dubai tomorrow. Also a 46 year old skier from :ETH will be competing, so adding them to the list.

Henry Rivers of :JAM had a good result today in Dubai. I think good enough to qualify for the olympics but have to wait for FIS points to be posted.

FIS points are up and he's through. Also in Dubai, :SMR Rafael Mini is very close to secure the first qualification for his country for these Games. He needs <= 120.59 FIS points tomorrow.

Just missed. now just needs 126.71 tommorow. Or Elia Stacchini only needs 144.8 I think. Or Matteo Giannini needs 111.22. At least one of them will surely make it.

so two new nations; :SMR and :PAK did enough in Dubai to earn quotas.

:PAK not yet. I misunderstood how the Olympic FIS point total is achieved when there is less than 5 slalom results. He needs one more result of better than 141.14 now.

:PER Ornella OETTL REYES is on the start list for an event in Austria. She should be able to get Peru a quota in alpine skiing.
