Snowboard at the Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026

Recommended Posts

Complete domination by the Japanese riders in all forms of park and pipe snowboarding for both men and women.

Whether people like it or not even though its a judged discipline park and pipe in both snowboarding and ski is here for the foreseeable future. Reason, geographic spread of medals. You just don't get that variety in other disciplines. Four continents have won medals for park and pipe in both board and ski. More than any other. As seen by results figure skating and short track (China/Korea) are probably the only winter sports bigger than park and pipe in East Asia. But that will perhaps change with Korea and China failing badly in Short Track.

I think it is the first time since its introduction in the Olympic programme that no N.American country (neither USA, nor Canada) win a gold medal

Hard to disagree, it'd be be nice though if over the years, both versions of the same events begin to differ more from each others.

Couldn't agree more. Asian countries have performed exceptionally well in snowboarding this time. Japan, in particular, has shown extremely high competitiveness in many events. South Korea has also won 3 medals in snowboarding, which I could hardly have imagined before. What's more, Su Yiming's coach is also a very famous Japanese coach.

Also that in both North America and Asia, park is extremely popular at the grassroots. It’s how a lot of people ski and snowboard recreationally.

Here in NZ not only is park and pipe popular but freeride skiing and snowboarding is very popular the back country stuff. Would be nice if it were introduced say 2034 in Utah. But apart from the French I don't think the rest of the Europeans would enjoy it lol coz you know everything is about them 🤣

We could say the same about non-European anglophone countries who want snowboard parallel slalom gone, not caring about that discipline.

Thankfully, Bulgaria and Korea won medals there, so it should be safe. :p

I actually rather enjoy it but won't be surprised if it's gone at 2034 which is unfortunate. Or it'll stay because they'd add more events. I really do hope freeride is there in 2034, not only for the action but also for the panoramic views of mountains they go down.

Maybe we'll even see freeride in 2030 with French support.
