Flávia Saraiva is currently first on the Balance Beam, 15.133. I'm not sure when was the last time I got this happy in my life. I'm in heaven!

Schäfer was very good on floor and vault, Alt was very good on vault too. I think we might really make the final, but most importantly i pray that Seitz + Scheder make the final on uneven bars and that at least one out of Alt/Schäfer will make the beam final. German commentator just said that Alt (born in 2000) already has the highest D scores of the whole team and even a better D score than Schäfer on beam, so she might really have a small chance to make the beam final.

Wow i just learnt that Saraiva is only 1.33m tall ... :yikes: that cant be true ... :mumble:

If Schafer hits her routine with no major balance checks, she will make the finals. The British girls only scored 14.5 or lower, and Schafer can beat this score with a hit routine. I know nothing about Alt, so it's surprising to know she has big D scores. I'm eager to see her performances now.

Also, do you know what happened to Janine Bieger? She was robbed of a medal in 2012 and after that I didn't hear much about her.

What a HUGE score for Mustafina! This is unbelievable. Anything over 9.0 in execution is just crazy.

And what a surprise to see no Russian will probably make Beam finals! Yilmaz from Turkey is hanging on in third right now, and she will need some luck with the Wevers sisters from the Netherlands, all of the US girls, Schaffer from Germany, Boyer from France, Black and Olsen from Canada, and Flávia Saraiva from Brazil still to come, but she definitely has a clear chance to make it to the finals. Fingers crossed.

 

 

Well in fact 2 British girls got ahead of Yilmaz now, no final for her :(

Alt now has a higher D score than Schäfer and just scored 14.8 on vault. Balance beam is always very tricky, we might get two athletes into the final or none, i hope for one and at least one on uneven bars.

Berger has been injured multiple times since London 2012. I read that she has torn her cruciate ligament, her meniscus and multiple other things in her knee. I agree that she got robbed in 2012 but i am not sure whether she wouldve made the team. Scheder, Seitz, Alt and Schäfer are safe, but one out of Berger/Chusovitina might have repaced Bui in the team. I think in the end she couldnt have helped us very much, i think with her our overall score wouldve been 0.4-0.5 points better at best.

Dipa Karmakar is currently sixth on vault with Moreno, Biles, E. Downie and Olsen still to go. She might not make the event finals. She did everything she could, though. Very nice work from Dipa.

      Who would have guessed, that our first men's podium of the season won't be from either Yankov or Zamfirov, but from Alexander Krashniak   This pretty much solidifies our men's team as the third strongest in the parallel events after  and  . And there are a couple of top youngsters coming up, so the potential is big for the next 5-6 years.   Too bad this progress is only limited to the parallel. Snowboard cross is again dead after Zhekova retired, while the other "techinical" snowboard disciplines have always been non-existent here..

      This suggestion has been implemented.       So qualification isn't done, and the last few spots are very close with essentially one more race to go.   On the 6th and 7th Canada entered 6 racers in the lower tier North American cup races in Lake Placid. On the 11th there was races again in Lake Placid, Canada only entered 2 (articles say withdrew 4, start list on the 10th says 2 registered, whatever).  If the total amount entered was above 20 then the ranking points for first start at 120 and go down incrementally, with only 2 Canadians entered there were 19 competitors so points for first only start at 90.    The USA only has a shot at qualifying 2 sleds at this point, and Uhlaender appears to have had a shot at catching up to 2nd best among the americans. She came 1st, those 30 points really cost her if that is how the USA nominates their team.   The best 17 countries get one sled, based on how their top competitor is ranked.  is in 13th with 498 points,  is in 14th with 480,  15th 475,  16th 468,  17th 457,  18th 456 and no one else has the ability to gain enough points.  could have received 27 more points,  19 more,  21 more. So a big deal for them, and not appearing in the stories.   The accusation is that Canada did it for their own gain, to protect Channell's chance of qualifying: the 6 countries with the highest ranked 2nd best slider get a 2nd quota.  Channell holds the last spot at 512,  Erlacher is next at 484. Both only race at the World Cup level. However, the next best after that is  Simmchen at 391, who did race in Lake Placid and misses out on 25 points. Both her and her teammate would have to pass both Channell and Erlacher in the rankings for them to achieve a 2nd quota. A miraculous outcome, but that is what Uhlaender is accusing the Canadians of being afraid of. Could be, I don't think so but who knows.

      I see, wasn't sure if they had internal trials like Canada had in the past. So Uhlaender will receive 84 points, more possibly if she races again, and Ro has one more race. So very understandable why she would be upset.
