IOC President Election 2025

What smaller countries ever hosted the Olympics though? Sarajevo 1984 is probably the last I can imagine and they would never host one in XXI century. The "grandiose" switch definitely happened in Winter Games, I'd never predict China hosting WOG even in early 00s. But the costs have driven many Summer OG candidates away, the bidding process is dead and IOC basically has to beg anyone to even come forward or else we'd have every Summer OG in the Middle East for a very long time.

Even Norway & Sweden did not want to bid with all the nonsense, so we ended up with Sochi & Beijing.

I can't tell about Sweden but with Norway Oslo/Holmenkollen would be the obvious choice but I've read many years ago already they won't bid for Winter OG no matter what. I can't really say what's the deal here. I know locals are fed up with the drunken parties around the area during World Cup events for a long time.

No, Oslo definitely dropped out because of the ludicrous demands for Taylor Swift treatment by the IOC.

It begins probably the most important week in the last decade for the Olympic movement. The IOC session in Greece will lead to the election of a new president, with Coventry representing the continuity candidate and several outsiders, some even histrionic.

Today will begin with the executive board meeting, with reports from the NOCs and IFs

I'm guessing that INTERPOL-Searched Diack's BFF is losinbg badly, cause they dont have no choice but to resort to biased headlines.

Oh, what a pitty.

Samaranch was a supporter of Franco and a member of parliament and in government on behalf of Franco’s political party. Where’s the bias in the first two words of the headline?

Although to be fair, one might wonder if that is entirely on Bach, considering he was in office for barely a year by the time Oslo dropped out (and so one might assume those demands were already known before Bach even took office).

And Coe's family comes from slave trading, he was friends with Lamine Diack and visited Epstein Island several times.

We can all play that game.

That’s whataboutism, not proving that the comment about Samaranch was untrue/biased.

For the record, I could not care less about who becomes president of the IOC, and am certainly not a fan of Coe.

In the end none of these senior citizens like Coe or Samaranch or whoever are going to make an actual difference, we need someone who is young, hip and in touch with urban culture

    • I think the reason is that it's generally preferable to have a fast shooter in the 1st leg, and especially in the prone shooting, where Hofer is quite slow.   Now, I'm not saying I agree with the choice, because I don't. I think it's going to neutralize Giacomel's skiing skills in the 1st lap at least.   I guess the idea is to try and set a very fast pace in the 1st leg, which is usually quite tactical, but I'm afraid that's going to force Giacomel to risk too much because he will feel he has to make some time somehow.   Regardless, Italy must be on the podium tomorrow. I think that would be crucial for the following races as well. I think France is the clear favorite, but the other teams are not stronger than Italy on paper.
