US-Mexican wrestlers and 2024 Olympians, Roman Bravo Young and Austin Klee Gomez, won bronze medals in -57kg & -70kg freetyle respectively, at Zagreb ranking series this week.

 

Can't remember of another medal in an international event, other than Jr or U23 World Championships, for Mexican wrestlers, so this is good news.

3rd Mexican international medal in the last year :cheer:

Bravo Young already won in Warsaw and Nice in 2024 :)

Kyle Snyder rather comfortably winning gold. :)

Iran cant be dissaponted either, some strong performances.

that was just OK, some good results mixed with some disappointing results. 

 

our top wrestlers (2024 Olympic/World medalists) were exempt here but still it was an important part of our trials for the 2025 World Championships and this tournament made it clear that we are weak in certain weights.

 

our trial system is so complicated, something like rocket science , very hard to understand :p

After the enormous and sorrowful Olympic experience Tajmuraz is back. :)

 

He took almost half year of break from wrestling, he was really suoer devastated after Paris, but thanks god his love for the sport was at the end too strong and he decided to return back to the mat, and just won in Zagreb :yes

it took two Olympics (and 4 years) for UWW to finally realize there is a big big flaw in their current rules (we have this since early 2021)

 

in Greco-Roman, in high level specially in heavier weights it's just hard to score. in this case sometimes the match ends up 1-1. (1 pt for passivity caution for each) under current rules lots of wrestlers decide to be intentionally passive in first 2 minutes to receive the first caution. this created lots of ugly scenes in Olympics. for example :CHI Yasmani Acosta won an Olympic silver in Paris without doing a thing! he was passive in his 3 pre-final matches and won all of them 1-1 :facepalm:

 

UWW will test a new rule at the European Championship next week, only in case of 1-1 and only in Greco-Roman whoever gets the first point wins. I believe this will become an official rule soon, they should make this change long time ago but yet late is better than never

      I will try for Croatia:    Archery (1) : we never had a representative, but were two times very close. I think we have a chance in Recurve for a single male quota, and in mixed compound,  Realistic one quota    Athletics (8) : difficult as many things will change in the next 2-3 seasons, but let's. say 8, I think that could be a realistic number   Badminton (1) : hopefully our Indonesian import will manage to qualify     Basketball (0): small chances in both male and 3x3 male teams , but somehow I doubt it    Boxing (2): two male quotas    Canoe slalom (1). maybe with a small chance for two places, but one is realistic    Canoe sprint (1): similar to slalom, maybe two, but one is realistic, but lets see how the new qualification system plays out    Cycling (2): would bee very happy with a quota in BMX freestyle and male road race    Diving (1): hoping that Matej Nevescanin will qualify    Fencing (0): very small chance in mens foil, but I guess will not happen.    football (0): there is always talks about our male team, but never succeeded, I am afraid will be the same for LA 2028    Artistic gymnastics (4): Kovtun plus two additional male quotes plus one female   Handball (14): the mens team should qualify    Judo (5): four female quota plus one male    Rowing (5). difficult to say as boats/crews are not defined yet. But I expect 4 mens places plus 1 female. Maybe more, but let see    Sailing (6): somehow not a good development in this sports, could be even less than 6 quotas.    Shooting (5): hopefully two trap and two male rifle quotas plus one surprise    Swimming (6): will be brave here and say 5 male plus one female.
