Cricket Discussion | Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Road to LA 2028

Not a great test for Italy, which closes at 134. If my calculations are correct, we need to defend at least 14.2 overs to go to the World Cup. If not, Jersey will be qualified

So Italy innings is over and they scored 134. So Netherlands have to win to qualify after Jersey's win earlier in the day

Italy current NRR: 1.722

Jersey current NRR: 0.306

If Netherlands score 135 runs in 84 balls or 14 overs then Italy NRR shall be 0.296 and if Netherlands score in 85 balls or 14.1 overs so Italy NRR shall be 0.319.

So restricting after 85 balls is the magical target for Italy

found an article on the ICC general assembly that suggets that men's qualification will be based on continental rankings with highest place from europe (good news from my british perspective) asia, africa and oceania and USA getting a spot with a world qualifier for the last spot.

the women's will be based on T20 world cup qualification....i assume that is the world cup in england next year

Highest rank for those continents almost certainly guarantees spots for South Africa and GB, probably for India and australia although they have closer rivals, and creates a pretty savage final qualifier which would probably contain New Zealand, Pakistan, Ireland, Zimbabwe, a West Indies constituent team, eg Jamiaca, Guyana, Barbados or Trinidad (the 'next best teams' in each of the five continents), plus three others, probably all asian, based purely on rankings - Sri Lanka, Bangla and Afghanistan -  a to poo qualifer could be done in a week, and would probably be a popular tournament for a host (quite possibly England)

If the rumours they use the 2026 T20 world cup are true (2028 would likely be too late for additional qualifiers), which is being hosted by :ENG then they would presumable take the top 4, and then have 2 qualifiers (or 1 if :USA get a host spot). Top 2 from each group would thus qualify for the games.

Group A: :AUS :IND :PAK :RSA :UKW :UKW

Group B: :ENG :NZL :SRI :WIS :UKW :UKW

I would say the favourites for group A are :AUS and :IND, whilst for Group B it is :ENG and :NZL.

If :WIS were to get top 2 in group B, then that would throw up some added curveballs, but they would either arrange a specific Caribbean qualifier, or add another spot in the final qualifier.

Realistically, the final spot(s), are likely to be taken by :RSA or :PAK, with the depth in women's cricket falling quite sharply after the big nations.

In lacrosse and flag football, do we have any ideas for qualification?
