Given their (and the women's) performance at the USA Sevens I wouldn't be surprised if it was already known among players prior to that event.

 

While disappointed, I am not surprised. Ireland never did like the sevens format (they didn't even have a program until it was added to the Olympics) and it is expensive to maintain given revenue is a lot smaller.

What does it mean when you say program is shut? No financial support and contracts? Or not allowed to take part in Sevens events

Meaning Ireland won't compete in Sevens soon?

Yes. They won’t compete in the World Series and won’t attempt to qualify for LA

Ireland is investing more in ice hockey than in rugby 7s xD
