Asian Winter Games 2025

it's really hard for OCA to find a host for the Asian Winter Games. no game in 2021, even 2025 Harbin was announced relatively very late. (only 1.5 years ago) OCA even accepted Saudi Arabia's crazy bid to host the 2029 event in middle of a desert! (at least on paper that looks crazy)

therefore it's totally up to the host country to pick the events.

this is really bad for the event's prestige but I assume OCA had no other option.

It doesn't help that there are essentially four nations ( :CHN:JPN:KAZ:KOR ) competing for medals with maybe the likes of :PRK:TPE:UZB being competitive in a few events. Others may get lucky with a bronze due to lack of competition.

Or just pure luck. Malaysia had a fourth in short track last time around.

I Think

need a lot of luck to win a medal. Probably the best opportunity in figure skating.

Most disciplines in this Harbin Game is what china is good at.

There is no PS/PGS in snowboarding, no Mass start in Speed skating (but 100m exists!)

Yes, China will win a lot of medals in Harbin, and I'm a little surprised that the Mass start event in speed-skating is not included. Instead, there is the 100m.
A less exciting event on the ice rink, but I think the organizers have chosen to include this distance to get as many participating countries as possible into the games. "Everyone" can
do 100m on ice.

I still haven't seen any news about an international feed for tv/streaming yet, unfortunately :(

    • I will do my best to organise a pairs competition also involving nations from the 4 teams that are eliminated in the first half of the team competition along with the lowest ranked individual nations at the halfway point (end of session 2) to form 8 pairs. Pairs will be balanced so that the highest ranked nation in the competition will be paired with the lowest ranked nation, second highest with the second lowest and so on. All of that will be based on the individual ranking at the halfway point.   This way every nation will have at least interest in some event until the end of the 3rd session.   I will probably base it closely on @mrv86‘s proposed rules, and have sprints every 3 rounds of votes. The pairs with most medals from those 3 rounds get the points along with an extra bonus for medal and points doubles.   I do only have 1 day to organise this now so I can’t promise anything though.

    • The two-woman quota is based upon the "combined" ranking. The 6 best monobob + 6 best 2-woman results are taken into account at the moment (7 once this week's WC race has been raced).  Weiszewski competed in Europe Cup yesterday in the monobob, finishing 2nd, which gave her 110 points. This was her 7th monobob race, so this result replaced her worst (80 points), helping her leapfrog Cernanska by 8 points. At this point I guess she's in a better spot, as she's got the same room for improvement in the two-woman today, while Cernanska probably won't compete that well in the WC.
