from what I heard , Iran has registered to participate in Alpine, CC skiing, SkiMo, Skating (they didn't mention which discipline :dunno:) and ... (this one will be surprising :d) ... Curling

Curling is not a sure thing yet, the NOC has to approve it. the team is very new. I mean very very new, only few months ago they gathered few people to start the sport :d you can't lose 100-0 in Curling, right ?

anyway it will be first time ever Iran participating outside of FIS disciplines. ( I didn't count Ski orienteering in 2011 which was the same as CC)

nobody cares about winter sports here. therefore finishing last won't have consequences. they can afford sending very weak teams. (which is not the case for the main Asian Games)

Any idea if Samaneh Beyrami will be going or are names not mentioned yet? I mean, if they've registered for CC and they're sending a woman, it can't realistically be anyone else, but still. She's super friendly so always cheering for her :d

no names mentioned, even the number of athletes is not finalized yet, the report says 4 in CC without mentioning the gender.

I assume if she is still competing (not retired) she will be going , hard to find anything about winter sports athletes in the summer :d (or even in the winter )

If she had retired, I think I would have heard it 'around', so I am just assuming she is still competing, although in between she is also working as FIS delegate in places like Bulgaria during the summer :d

Curling will have 14 participating nations, with the men's and mixed doubles events have a group stage (surely a first for an international MSE event? @Olympian1010?)

Mixed doubles

Group A: :JPN :HKG :TPE :KUW :MGL :THA :TKM

I believe this is Turkmenistan's (and possibly Thailand and Kuwait) international curling debut.

Group B: :CHN :KOR :KAZ :KGZ :PHI :QAT

Women's: :KOR :JPN :CHN :TPE :HKG :KAZ :PHI :THA :QAT

Men's:

Group A: :KOR :KAZ :PHI :KGZ :QAT

Group B: :JPN :CHN :HKG :QAT :KSA :THA

The Youth Olympic Games have used the group format before due to a large number of entries. The 2023 Winter EYOF also used a two group format in the mixed team event.

Still, it's cool to see so many nations registered for the Asian Winter Games.

If my figures are correct, I confirm that this is the international debut in top-level competition for Turkmenistan, Kuwait and Thailand. i believe it is also the debut in a senior competition for Mongolia

apparently our NOC rejected the winter sport federation request to send a bigger delegation.

they published a list of just 14 athletes. 8 in CC skiing, 2 in Alpine and 4 in SkiMo. equal number of male and female athletes in each sport.
