Ceccarelli wanted to take money from the federation and train daughter in her team. The federation didn`t want to agree to this, because we are talking about a 16-year-old girl at the time. Private teams have stars with recognized achievements, e.g. Brignone or Goggia (they also trained in junior teams at the age of 16). In my opinion, Ceccarelli could have collected money from private funds, after all, with such successes of her daughter it wouldn`t be a problem. Tina Maze also separated from Slovenia at some point and created her own team. In a situation in which Colturi would start to achieve successes, then the federation should start to finance her team more + private sponsors. For me it`s simple.

Ok, so I guess federation didn't want to create special rules for a single athlete no matter how promising she is but overall they have mismanaged it more IMO. It's rather obvious any parent will always support their child first. I'm sure there could have been an agreement to return some loans in the future especially that those "private" contracts like Red Bull were always more probable to happen plus the entire exposure hype with the next WOG in Italy.

Yes, you are right. The fault lies on both sides in my opinion.

Seems to be quite common - like Estelle Alphond for :SWE because her father fell out with :FRA

But do we have any Austrian users LOL?

Totallympics had :AUT users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.

Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.

It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!

Such a nice one for Colturi :ALB! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.

I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.

I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.

Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

Nonsense. Chamizo moved to Italy, married an Italian, he's still here after many years and was essentially banned from competing for Cuba.

Colturi's tie to Albania is that the Albanian federation had invested a ton of money in her mother's business (élite and very costly academy for young skiers), and then gave her a role, and probably another big salary, as a director in exchange for the pomise of their first winter Olympic medal. A better comparison is to that archer who competed for Ivory Coast because her father had a big clothing business in the country.

IMO the Italian federation was right in not giving to that financial and political blackmail - had they accepted it, plenty of more established athletes in snow sports could have asked for more under the threat of changing nationality. It's not like they had a sports almanac from the future saying that that 15yo girl would have won 5 olympic gold medals and 5 overall world cups.

    • this is not funny at all, pal
    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
    • Always dreamed Gretzky will draw Slovakia was another moment I can already remove from my things to do before die list
    • Finland have been awful in almost all winter sports, well beside ice hockey and cross-country from time to time, for a lot of years. It's very good to see them building people to challenge for wins again. Their new coach has done wonders it seems.
    • 14th June in Philadelphia against Cote d´Ivoire   20th June inToronto against Curacao   and 25th June in Philadeplphia to kick out  home    Not easy, but not the most difficult group. Should be okay. Vamos
