Luge Discussion | Qualification to Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026

Recommended Posts

Depending on the situation, one can imagine the first one can be forgiven instead of being called dumb (like, if 'short notice' meant a call that something had been very wrong with a person close to you or something like that). The other two however....ouch, especially that last one  How can you not put the full address there when being asked about the address?!

The 16-time World Cup winner, two-time Olympic medalist, and three-time world champion also explained how the missed doping tests came about. The first time, she had to stay somewhere else at short notice and didn't disclose it; the second time, she entered the wrong travel date and later failed to consider the time difference. The third time, she didn't provide the apartment number of her Airbnb during a vacation in Los Angeles. "It was a bad turn out and extremely annoying, because I'm usually a perfectionist."

But honestly, that is entirely part of being a professional athlete nowadays, thank the many, many, many actual dopers for that. If you take your five minutes a day for it, it should not be too much of a problem. Like, you can literally keep it updated if you make bringing your phone to the bathroom a habit and do it there :p

Well yeah , it’s something they can obviously do, the problem is that it’s so easy to forget, it’s like people who forget to take their daily pills or something like that or to forget your key every now and then, I do think they need to optimise this system or at least give them a notice or something if they presumably forgot to update their status

A daily reminder in an app would be fine, but also: there are things I need to do every day as well, I simply set a daily alarm for it and the problem of forgetting (which I very easily do) is solved.

The chance of being controlled on a given day is quite low, in order to miss 3 you realistically need to misreport at least a couple dozen times a year.

Correct, especially for out of competition testing. Like there may only be a 1-3% chance they visit you on a particular day (though I imagine the chances increase as you get flagged for missed tests).

Though that may be a reason why people don't update their whereabouts, since the chances are so unlikely.

And because of low odds , athletes can miss reporting and say to themselves “what are the odds”, anyway it’s still an athlete fault for missing reporting, and I hope it will at least spark either discussion on the matter or more focus from other athletes

Late changes to the Luge Calendar.  The Igls event has been moved to Winterberg - there has been rebuilding work at Igls and the Luge people were not happy.  Bobsleigh/skeleton OTOH are fine with it.

The test event at Cortina in two weeks time has been upgraded to one of the races counting in the Olympic Qualifier series.

Olympic Test Event in Cortina upgraded: First qualifying race for Mila

According to the russian sources 6 athletes got neutral srtatus and will compete in Italy next week.

Right now it makes huge problems for Latvia and the 4th world cup stage.
Russians are not allowed to travel there.

And of course it makes problems for all the others since we will face the same game as before Paris-2024:

Infternational sport federations do not perform proper checks. And later a lot these "neutral statuses" are declined by the IOC.

According to the scientific research 43% of these "neutral statuses" were not confirmed by the IOC. And these incorrect checks by the IF`s harmed dozens of the athletes from the other countries.

Document here summarising how the Luge Qualification System will work, for all you Stats obsessives.  Whole circus starts this weekend at Cortina.
