Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024 Medal Count

I wouldn't call it just yet, but it appears indeed the odds have now switched to the US

China still has 4 diving, 2 table tennis and 5 weightlifting, which brings them to 30. Now the US could get to 30 with only athletics, though getting 11 more athletics golds will be fantastic result.

After that, China still has chances in some of the other sports. They have a shooting final tomorrow, they have done good in women's boxing, synchronized swimming looks good for them, maybe something in canoeing.

The US will be the favorites in wrestling, especially now that Russia is out. But their team sports don't look as strong as previous editions. They are not favorites in any of the volleyball events, or the women's football this time.

It will all come down to how successful the US will be in athletics. If they get only 6-7 more golds, then it will be interesting. If they get 10+, then it's pretty much over.

I'm interested in the people who are certain about the standings, which medals are they counting currently?

I'm hoping that from team :POL somebody will sneak gold medal, otherwise it would be our worst result since London 1948, last time when we haven't any gold medal, and just one bronze overall, other Olympics with just one gold for us were Helsinki and Melbourne. Sunday should be decisive day for us, with medal chances in women's road race in cycling, women's 50m freestyle, two QF in boxing and men's hammer throw. I would want believe that it will be better day for us than recent three, but I prefer to stay negative.

Aaand we failed everywhere, besides one, yes, one medal in boxing. If tomorrow we will lost to Slovenia in QF in mens volleyball then I will skip the rest of Olympics. Really.

Ukraine ahead of Poland in the medal table, is that probably a surprise?

I would say we are not focused on the place in medal table ) Number of medals is more important these days.

I think it is a surprise giving the strength of Polish team. And I think Poland will be ahead of us at the final.

You're right. The medal table can be started to be looked at in the last weekend of the games.

I note that the Australia medal count is extremely female dominated. Only one gold medal of twelve is by a male. Be of interest to have different tables for men and women for all countries.

My impression of Australia (from spending time there) is that the women there are much more Olympic Games interested than men who much prefer their local sports. Simply put sporty boys choose their sport for economic possibility whereas sporty girls want to be an Olympian.

Of course, women are also affected by the financial possibilities of sport. I'm sure many Eastern Europeans of both sexes who once would have been track and field athletes now look to play sports like tennis (and of course soccer)
