Interestingly, bookmakers already give Germany and especially Switzerland a much higher chance to win than Slovakia, I thought Slovakia would be higher :p

After the last couple of years and all problems inside our federation, the terrible boycott of the National team from all our top players and idiotic and childish fights for the top places in the federation resulted this year in a team composed of some very low level and young players at this years world championships, the team finished 14th (our worst ever result) winning only one match against Italy and only after Overtime (and yet they played us the Slovenian anthem, so we finished for the first time the disastrous championship without listening at least once our national anthem ) it´s definitely not a surprising fact to see us so down in the odds, but I still think that is not so black, the things started to work slowly this summer, the changes (very needed) happened, we have new coach, new National team officials, new worldly well known faces starting a common work and project, new visions and what is the most important - the end of the boycott (unfortunately this time our NHL players will not be allowed to play not because of their own decision but because of their league leader is a total asshole :() but with our complete forces I think we would be surely at least at the same level of GER or SUI

This should made some relatively important problems also for Canada. In fact after the NHL decision, they envisaged to send a team composed mainly from KHL players so the situation will not be so good for them as well if this disastrous scenario has to happen...but you know, the general depth of Canada is still impressively higher than in any other country, so you still must consider Canada as one of the favorites every time with every kind team they attend

here the Team Canada roster for the upcoming Euro Hockey Tour Karjala Cup tournament, very likely this will be the base of the Canadian Olympic roster for PC 2018

https://sport.aktuality.sk/c/302573/v-nominacii-kanady-na-karjala-cup-aj-obranca-despres-zo-slovana/

yeah, but I think we should consider the word "relatively" very well...

because they can still make a team from this list of players (those currently playing in the DEL, NLA, SHL and EBEL only) and win the Gold medal in style...

to be honest, here I see some names other Countries wouldn't get even with the NHL guys going to the Games (they could actually build a team with all former NHLers...and I mean people who had a really relevant NHL career before shipping to Europe)...

DEL Canadians...http://www.eliteprospects.com/player_nationalities_in_league.php?LeagueID=DEL&startdate=2017&NationID=3

NLA Canadians...http://www.eliteprospects.com/player_nationalities_in_league.php?LeagueID=NLA&startdate=2017&NationID=3

SHL Canadians...http://www.eliteprospects.com/player_nationalities_in_league.php?LeagueID=SHL&startdate=2017&NationID=3

EBEL Canadians...http://www.eliteprospects.com/player_nationalities_in_league.php?LeagueID=EBEL&startdate=2017&NationID=3

and I didn't even bother to link the Canadian players of the AHL and the other North-American leagues, nor the Shane Doan/Jarome Iginla duo, who's not completely ruled out the chance to live another Olympic experience with their National team, despite being officially retired from club Hockey...

p.s. there are almost more Canadian players in those 4 European leagues than Italian professional players registered here in Italy...:yikes::facepalm::wall:

yes, that´s why I wrote the word - relatively :d I was pointing just the fact that after the big NO from the NHL, I´ve heard that Canada was thinking to send a team with basically KHL players, but ofc they have the capacities to build easily another strong team even without using players from the both mentioned leagues

Complaints can be directed to the Russian government/sports authorities for f*cking up their athletes and the chances of their athletes.

This will not happen I think, I´ve heard (some rumors) that Russian athletes will be allowed to compete but only as Independent athletes under the Olympic flag and they will not be allowed to march at the parade of nations during the opening ceremony...but as I said I´ve just heard it somewhere and I don´t even remember where..so very likely it may be also only a bullshit :p

The Declaration of the Olympic Truce

KOY_0664-1.jpg

The Declaration of the Olympic Truce signed on October 23rd, 2017, by the Mayors of Ancient Olympia, Ilida and Sparta – and then co-signed by the President of the International Olympic Committee, Dr. Thomas Bach, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Lee-Nak yeon, the vice-presidents of the International Olympic Truce Foundation, Mr. George Papandreou and Mrs. Fani Petralia, the President of the Hellenic Republic, HE Prokopis Pavlopoulos, prominent personalities, figures and organizations of international, regional and national standing, and, subsequently, via an electronic platform, by as many citizens of the world as possible – marks a substantial effort to bring to mind, once again, the significance of the Olympic Truce shortly before the XXIII Olympic Winter games PyeongChang 2018 take place.

    • few observations on the first major tournament:   live score board (on screen) needs some improvements such as: the fencing piste colours are consistently wrong between the scoreboard and real game (the red and green colours) shooting screen in combined phase is very bad, time is stuck or continue even when the player finished, also the green (good shot dots) are not always working at the beginning I didn't like the score board on the left hand side but later I got used to it which is not bad in my opinion now. showing the the round in fencing will be beneficial to understand is it QF, R 16 ..etc and expect the score accordingly the fencing screen in the left hand side is confusing  (location of the score compared to name is not very clear) and it's more confusing when you notice that the colour is wrongly switched (see first point) Obstacles is fun to watch (I wasn't expecting that) and young athletes are taking it to very high leve,. also surprised with some good actions from experienced athletes such as Belaud, Shabaan & Gulyas.   Equestrian was not fair but more thrilling, here Obstacles is more fair and not boring. Personally, I liked Equestrian more but I can understand why obstacles is more favourable for some others.   new scoring of fencing is better, even difference in points was adjusted to become more close to swimming weight (main deciders now are obstacles and combined).   waiting Fencing World Ranking list to know how does it work and how they calculate this new ranking.
