These 200 fly heats yesterday

Basically we got heats because two of the four Hungarians needed to be dropped (due to that utter bullshit '2 per country in the semis' rule, but alright) and because 1 unfortunate soul needed to be the reserve :d

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

Her best shot at a medal is in the 400 IM. Bronze looks pretty wide open.

Silver is wide open too IMO. Grimes sure on paper would be the favourite,  but she went 4:35 at Trials…

Gorbenko winning a medal would likely require a massive PB though.

I still think the Olympic medals in the women's 400m IM will be closer to the 4.30 dead mark than many people expect right now

Guess we’ll have to see ;)

I think it’s possible with Grimes and Forrester, but they aren’t consistent enough to be marginal favourites for medals.

Big NR for her and quota for the Olympics, so in her 4th Olympics she will compete in an individual event now and not just a relay like she did in Tokyo, incredible for her to be improving at age 32 after being around for so many years and she seemed like she was finished not too long ago :yes

Also great for her to win a second medal here after never having a European Championships medal, and this time in an Olympic category, and honestly with that time she would've won a medal in 2022 anyways so it's not like she just got 'lucky' that some big names were missing this year!

Incredible for us to have two 1-2 finishes within 5 minutes

Overall a great Championships for us, with 17 total medals, we had previously never won more than 6 (and the last two editions for example we only won 3 medals each time). Yes, many of the big names were missing, but I still think we would've probably had our best European Championships regardless, some of our swimmers did great with huge PRs and NRs :yes

Also we got 3 new quotas for Paris here in Belgrade. We should have several swimmers make finals in Paris, and hopefully someone can sneak a medal, which would be our first ever Olympic medal in the pool :fingers: (we've only won in open water).

Ah yes, Greece, my favourite European swimming powerhouse :p

Jim Carrey Omg GIF

(my reaction to their performance this past week)

Must be all of the gyros that they’re eating :p:lol:

Hungary still won the medal table but we were second, honestly the future of Greek swimming looks good. The likes of Christou and Gkolomeev won't be around forever, but I think they'll stick around until 2028, and some of our youngsters like Siskos, Makrygiannis, Papastamos, Bilas, Markos, Damasioti, etc. were very impressive here, and now it was announced that our 15 yo breaststroke talent Ntoumas will be going to Paris on one of the relay teams :yikes:

And finally our women's swimming team (which has gone really downhill since London and especially since Rio), seems to be slowly on the rise again, with many other young talents like Pyrili, Angelaki, Vasilaki, Rakopoulou. Hopefully more to come as well.
